I had a spirited discussion with someone about whether or not the country is on the brink of a recession. All signs I see point to a yes. The president is expected to announce some temporary tax cuts in his State of the Union and I can't help but think, too little too late?
I'm no economist, so what do the leading economic indicators tell us? Foreclosure rates are still up, the credit crisis is not leveled out, either. Oh, and the dollar continues to fall. Consumer confidence is still low. So, what industry is 'recession proof' and do you work in that industry? If not, are you cutting back on spending?
Well at least when the recession hits we'll be motivated to finally clean out all the illegal beaners that are here and sending all their wages south of the border. Wonder if those shit jobs they are doing will become a little more attractive?
Oh who am I kidding? President Bush: Tear down that wall! I just love those little brown bambinos they seem to produce at the speed of sound.
Political reality or not, the previous comment is extremely offensive and condescending. Surprised that one got through.
anon2, are you new to this site? If you want censorship please go to the Burnt Orange report.
I'm not for censorship by any means, just thought that was in serious poor taste. My apologies, continue with your racist rants anon.
I don't pull comments. I think other people do a good job of rebutting and correcting where needed.
Besides, it is good for us to see the ignorance, hate or even well thought out comments of people with opposing views. It reminds me that I can't give up because the world is full of aggressive ignorance.
Anon2,
First of all, fuck you. Please follow the path of least resistence and call me a racist. Like it matters. Thanks to PD's open mike and letting people say what they want I'll continue to do so. Draw your own conclusions at will but don't say "I'm not for censorship by any means" when you've already called for it. By the way did I mention: Fuck you!.
Nothing like "fuck you" as a retort to encourage debate. :-p
Video games are pretty much recession proof. Seems like movies would do well in a recession, since people would want to escape the crappy times outside.
Anon,
But you ARE, in fact, a racist.
You've acknowledged that no one wants those jobs, but you're now hoping that they'll become more attractive so that we'll "finally" have the motivation to get rid of the "beaners" and their "brown babies."
Even at the expense of the nation's economic health. Even while people who are here legally go homeless and hungry. If that's what it takes to get rid of The Horrible Brown People, that's what you want. You're ready to go into a recession so you don't have to look at them anymore.
Yes, you're a moron. And yes, I realize that particular point doesn't contribute to intelligent discourse, either.
And yes, I look forward to you spending the rest of your pathetic little life drowing in hatred and anger at a group of people who are doing nothing but making your life easier. They'll go on and be happy - you, however, will waste your life hating and resenting people you know nothing about. It'll drive you to an early grave, upon which I cannot WAIT to dance.
And yes, to refute one last point in your ridiculous response. it matters.
It's a depression in some areas. Nationally, the numbers don't reflect it yet but SoCal, for example, is really bad shape.
And a tax cut will not do a thing. In fact, it will likely have the opposite effect by further devaluing the dollar and driving our interest rates up, regardless of Fed Funds.
The reality is that until we get some wage growth, things are going to get worse. That's the nature of a banana republic economy,
