Two Dems have filed to take on U.S. Rep Michael McCaul in Austin. McCaul's district includes West and North Austin and parts of Pflugerville and Manor. One is a policy wonk that isn't raising a lot of money and the other is a folksy lawyer that had his own show on Fox Television.
This is a pretty vulnerable district for the Republicans. Even Ted Ankrum got 40% of the vote in 2006 and he didn't have hardly any money at all.
Does the 'folksy lawyer' gig still work in Texas?
In 2006, one time libertarian Presidential candidate Mike Badnarik raised $442,733 (no doubt with the help of his presidential bid's donor list), and Ankrum raised $72,061.
Grant's already raised $118,112, to Larry Joe's $228,876.
Now, if you want to argue that Grant hasn't raised a lot of money, well, that's true: When you compare what the candidates have given to their own campaigns, Larry Joe has outraised Grant 1000 to 1.
(For those playing the home game, that means Larry Joe gave his campaign a cool one hundred thousand dollars. Grant gifted his campaign with a mere 100 bucks. What this means is that Larry Joe's raised $128,875 to Grant's $115,512. So by that standard, neither one, then, is great shakes at raising money.)
Actually, it was a syndicated show that lasted, I think, for a year.
