Some residents in Farmers Branch, a suburb of Dallas, are requesting the city “council to discuss mandatory exterior color standards for buildings”. The residents who put in the request are pissed that some residents have painted their homes in flashy colors. Farmers Branch is the suburb that approved the ordinance for apartment managers to verify legal status before going through with a lease. The ordinance was blocked by a federal judge.
Business owner Elizabeth Villafranca perceived it as another jab at Hispanics in a city that has targeted illegal immigration. "We know who has the bright colors," she said after the council meeting. "Latin Americans."
