Damn You, UT.

I'm not usually one to join in the NIMBY crowd about development in Austin, but the UT system recommendation to develop land in the Brackenridge Tract is offensive. Everyone knows that the university could make a shitload of money by developing this charming oasis near downtown, but that doesn't mean you should.

This golf course is part of what makes the neighborhood so desirable. Even if you don't golf you aren't surrounded by hideous Gables or Post property apartments.

The Statesman is blaring the news on the front page like someone put a turd in the punchbowl. We had the same reaction.

I live in that area, and I think the golf course has outlived its time. Why should so many resources be dedicated to golfers? We need commercial development, thanks to the vegetarian nazi that has driven out most business. And what about WAYA getting that free ride???? Give me a break; do you know how much that place charges to be a member? A LOT.

Lions is a public golf course. Green fees are $17.50 on weekdays and $20 on weekends: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/lions.htm
