John Shannon Bailey, the president of Dallas' Texas' Stonewall Democrats, was ticketed for sucking cock at White Rock Lake. The Stonewall Democrats have asked him to step down as leader of the state's largest gay political organization. That's all. They aren't condemning. You know the gays, can't condemn anything. You know, whatever floats your boat and all.

Bullshit. Sucking off dudes in a park is the exact type of behavior that gives fuel to arguements that gay men are perverts engaging in degrading and most likely unsafe sex. In public! Wrong, wrong, wrong. I fully expect the Stonewall Democrats to show me the same moral outrage they did over Tom Malin. They are pitiful. Useless and pitiful. And in Dallas.
The gay community has to take a stand against other gays that do illegal things. It's their silence on behavior like public lewdness, crystal meth and party drugs at circuit parties and unsafe sex that imply the whole gay community thinks behavior like that is ok. It's not. Put your dick in your pants when you are at a park, asshole. And to all the homos out there partying with crystal meth and having unsafe sex? You're going to lose your job, your friends, your teeth and then you're going to die. Shape the f' up, losers. Jesus! I can't belive I have to rant like this on a Sunday!
To clarify, the Texas Stonewall Democrats HAVE NOT asked him to step down yet -- only the local Dallas Chapter. He remains the President of the Texas Stonewall Democrats.
Shannon has NOT been asked to step down from the Texas Stonewall Democrats - he has only stepped down from the local Dallas chapter. He remains the president of the Texas Stonewall Democrats statewide group. His behavior is unacceptable and reflects negatively not only on the LGBT community but on the Texas Democratic Party as a whole. Shame on the Democrats and the LGBT community/statewide Stonewall Democrats leadership for not reprimanding him at all. It seems like they are trying to hide this, rather than decisively deal with the situation. This happened back on 6/14. It is now July, and he still remains in a powerful, prestigious position that he does not deserve. And we wonder why no one takes Democrats seriously in Texas -- maybe we deserve the lack of respect?!
the state chapter does not have a seperate email/web form the dallas chapter.
so contact info@stonewalldemocratsofdallas.org
or better yet let the national office know

how we feel about this cock sucker representing the LGBT Dems
Oh noes, not sexual behaviour outside of the culturally accepted norms! Given the very apt "What's Happening to Your Freedoms?" 4th of July post that you recently made, this polemic in response to a (from the quoted source) victimless crime is highly ironic.
Thinking of the children is best left to Mrs. Lovejoy.
Requesting that people don't engage in sexual behavior outside like our animals do is not unreasonable. It isn't just about thinking of children -- it's about creating a safe, desirable community for all and about respecting the law. If we want to be accepted as equals, then we must follow the law as our straight ally counterparts do or pay the price. Unfortunately, the price we pay is much higher because when perpetuate stereotypes, we give society "moral" grounds to continue discriminate against us. This man is the face of GLBT Dems as president of Texas Stonewall Democrats (and arguably all GLBT Texans since the Republicans don't have a visible organization). Having Bailey represent GLBT equality is like having Charles Manson represent victim's rights. WTF???
I actually know Shannon, I was a Stonewall member in Dallas when he was president there. I feel that it's totally appropriate for him to step down. I feel it's totally appropriate for you to say he shouldn't have been fooling around in the park. I also feel that it perpetuates the stereotype that gay men are promiscuous. I don't feel however, that you should be kicking him when he's down. The republicans will take care of that. It's fine for us to say it isn't right, but not to pretend that we've never done anything embarrassing.
I don't think people are trying to kick him when he's down. Support him as a person, but not as a political leader. He should be graceful and step down. If not, democrats should rally against this. Keeping him in power reinforces Republicans' notions of gay people and democrats alike.
think gays are the only ones having sex in public? nay, probably not. it is likely he was doing something unsafe with someone he didnt know, but that is not a given fact (as far as I am aware). I have taken a boyfriend camping before, is all i'm saying.
it's sad if this guy is in fact engaging in self-destructive behavior, but its really not our business, and--god help me--i have a hard time giving myself such moral clarity as to be able to condemn this guy as the sole architect of his own issues. i was raised by a loving and understanding family but it still took me almost ten years after coming out to realize that God still loved me and that I could still be successful in a society that was at best suspicious of who I was. after being told one's whole life "you are going to hell, faggot", then it is hard to blame some gay folks for pursuing a little extra sin in this life, just to make it worth the trip toward eternal damnation.
the behavior is sad, yes, but why hold gay men to a higher standard when if anything we should get a little more understanding? i understand the instinct not to want to be categorized with ppl that act this way, but the fact is none of us are as perfect as we would like to be, and without the sleazy guys, gay pride day would be a very lonely and quiet affair.
It's sad you've had a rough life. This guy has, too. He reportedly was convicted of the same thing he is now cited for back in 1993. Get help and get out of political leadership.
Oh you santimonious assholes - we have ALL made mistakes in judgement in our lives. And when it comes to sex, that is an easy one to make. As for Shannon reinforcing the sterotypes, I can think of several more egregious examples. Get off your moral high horses.
Shannon is President of the Texas Stonewall Democrats, not Dallas. He is the former President of the Dallas chapter. So yeah, that makes it an even bigger deal.
And add to this the Dallas Constable who finally resigned for sexual harassment among other things.
