I'm Deeply Troubled...about Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney's campaign commerical uses a metaphor about cleaning up the water in which our kids are swimming. It's too bad that that he doesn't give three shits about actually cleaning up the water, but instead he wants to take us back to the 1950's.

This is yet another thing that irks me about Republicans. Yesterday wasn't so great. The Good Ol' Days weren't all rainbows and butterflies. We need a candidate for president that's excited about moving us forward, not reminiscing about fake good times we need to go back to because America is f'ed up. Ugh. Could we have a rule that you can't be this dumb and pandering to run for office? It's insulting.

Watch the commercial here.

I disagree. There's nothing in this ad about going backwards or reminiscing. I think you're imposing that on this ad. Just because he wants America's kids to be exposed to less drugs/sex/violence doesn't mean he's being falsely reminiscent of a past era. These should be admirable goals of liberals and conservatives alike. The means of achieving these goals, however...

Depends on what cues you look for. There was plenty of sepia tone video, generally a technique for making something look old. Also, the kids were all white (are those Romney's kids?).

But hey, if you can get a progressive takeway from that, then more power to you.

Mark, if you don't think an ad about how kids today are surrounded by pornography and perversion and violent video games isn't meant to harken back to the good ol' days of yore then you are drinking the Kool-Aid like nobody's business.
