Odds and Ends

How did I miss the documentary, The Unforseen? Watch an interview with Austin director, Laura Dunn, on the documentary about the Barton Springs v. land developer Gary Bradley.

Cats are Democrats and Dogs are Republicans. Heh.

It's You and Me Against The World
"It is a sad commentary in America today that many Americans have lost faith in their government," Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Arizona, said.
Hey, Senator Kyl. If it's so sad, why aren't you doing anything about it? Instead of lying, cheating, stealing and lying some more why doesn't Congress do something before we get to a point where America is outside of the Capitol with pitchforks and torches?

The president's approval ratings are in the tank. Congress is right there with him. The Democrats numbers are about to go over the ledge and the Republicans are making sure the landing hurts. Congress cannot seem to figure out why the American public isn't happy. They can't agree on a cause. Is it the war in Iraq that makes Americans just sick of government in general? Is it the immigration bill? Is it that hideous blue jacket Hillary keeps wearing?

Couldn't a You v. Me environment be created because we know that President Bush's administration is corrupt, entitled and stubborn and when we finally gave the baton back to the Democrats they have proven to be the 'all over the map' p*ssies we always thought they were.

Where is the standing up? Where's the outrage? All talk and no action. (That's what he said).

Happy 4th of July

From all of us at PinkDome, have a happy and safe Fourth.

I suggest we all sit back and take a minute to ponder the lives, and deaths, of two of our country's Founding Fathers, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson:

The Family Research Council's Action Alerts are infamous. Their latest one (Video goodness!) in opposition to the Hate Crimes Act has even made it to snopes.com, the urban myth de-bunker site. (via)

Money Talks, Bullshit Walks

John McCain may finally have to face reality as his fundraising goes in the shitter. Raising just $11 million in the second quarter has put him a race for the bottom. He's laid off campaign staffers and some senior aides have taken a pay cut or are volunteering their time. (HA! How stupid could someone be to volunteer their time for John McCain?)

In much more interesting news, Barack Obama raised $32 million in the same time period and Hillary Clinton raised $27 million. So, if the race were about fundraising it seems the money is favoring the Dems this year.

Best news of all? During that same time period, I raised $4.87 and knitted an afghan.

Unbelievable.

Bush commutes Scooter Libby's sentence. It's just amazing to me the blatant disregard for the law, the entire judicial system, ethics and the due process of law from this administration. And we just sit here and take it.

So what kind of serious shit does Scooter Libby have on Cheney and Bush that with a 21% approval rating he would make this kind of decision. It's got to be quite the sack of turds.

True Colors of the Rainbow

This video was produced for Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Tour to encourage and remind you that 1 in 6 hate crimes are committed against GLBT people.

The Matthew Shepard Act is currently in the Senate Judiciary Committee and has been co-sponsored by 43 Senators. None from Texas.

And, speaking of hate crimes. The kid in Houston that was brutalized with a pipe? Yeah, he jumped to his death from a cruise ship. He was just a kid. (Chron)

Sicko and the state of health care in the U.S.

I saw Sicko this weekend. Let me say that first, I hate Michael Moore. I find him annoying and heavy handed. His latest movie has caused the usual controversy, plus some. Including the threat of confiscating the movie because of a visit to Cuba. (AAS)

As someone that has worked in the healthcare industry for over a decade, I can't refute his facts. In spite of all our problems with the current health care system, I think it's more good than bad. That was until I was humiliated when he took 9/11 rescue workers to Cuba for health care. That was just embarrassing.

You should see the movie. But, it's what the movie does to inspire you to action that counts. We should ask some real questions about what's wrong with the system and what we should do to fix what's wrong.

Stonewall Democrat Sucks

John Shannon Bailey, the president of Dallas' Texas' Stonewall Democrats, was ticketed for sucking cock at White Rock Lake. The Stonewall Democrats have asked him to step down as leader of the state's largest gay political organization. That's all. They aren't condemning. You know the gays, can't condemn anything. You know, whatever floats your boat and all.
jgbasd.jpg

Bullshit. Sucking off dudes in a park is the exact type of behavior that gives fuel to arguements that gay men are perverts engaging in degrading and most likely unsafe sex. In public! Wrong, wrong, wrong. I fully expect the Stonewall Democrats to show me the same moral outrage they did over Tom Malin. They are pitiful. Useless and pitiful. And in Dallas.

The gay community has to take a stand against other gays that do illegal things. It's their silence on behavior like public lewdness, crystal meth and party drugs at circuit parties and unsafe sex that imply the whole gay community thinks behavior like that is ok. It's not. Put your dick in your pants when you are at a park, asshole. And to all the homos out there partying with crystal meth and having unsafe sex? You're going to lose your job, your friends, your teeth and then you're going to die. Shape the f' up, losers. Jesus! I can't belive I have to rant like this on a Sunday!

New Laws Go Into Effect July 1

It's ironic that as we get near the Independence Day holiday, state legislatures across the country have passed laws that have an alarming trend of denying people rights. I know we joke about that in Texas, but when you see the trend on a national stage it's a little shocking. Here are a few examples:

Abortion: Women seeking abortions in Georgia must be given a chance to see an ultrasound image of the fetus and listen for a heartbeat. In Mississippi, an abortion provider must perform a sonogram and give a pregnant woman the chance to listen to the heartbeat.

Anti-Stupidity: Virginia drivers 17 years old and younger can be ticketed for talking on cellphones while driving.
Florida increases the penalty — 60 days in jail or a $500 fine — for leaving a child under 6 in a vehicle without the engine running for longer than 15 minutes.

Tennessee has even banned motorcycle wheelies. Really? They have that kind of time in the legislature? And Virginia requires sex offenders to register their email addresses. Which will then be sold to every spam email company in the world as extra, extra punishment.

Oh well! Happy Independence Day America!! Your freedoms and rights are in the good hands of your elected officials!!

RIP Captain America?

capjskda.jpg
The Marvel superhero Captain America has been killed off in a recent issue. Ironically, the cause of death is certainly a political statement...much like his very first appearance before the U.S. entered WWII. In the issue, he's shot by a sniper on the steps of a federal courthouse.

He was headed to court after refusing to sign the government's Superhero Registration Act, a move that would have revealed his true identity. A sniper who fired from a rooftop was captured as police and Captain America's military escort were left to cope with chaos in the streets.
Uhm, isn't that a little heavy handed?

I haven't ever been a big comic book freak, so someone else will have to tell me if they give a shit. (Disclosure: As a child my comic book interest was limited to Archie and the Gang and Richie Rich).
