Sen. Glenn Hegar, R-Katy, thinks we ought to be slaughtering and eating horses in Texas. I don't know what kind of food shortage or how poor I would have to be before I would eat horse meat. WTF?
Sadly, the Senate is outdoing the House this year in crazy. Between Dan Patrick and his obsession with abortion and fake tax cuts and horsemeat franchising the senators have overtaken the representatives in successfully illustrating why the Texas Legislature embarrasses us year after year.
i think we have a few crazy people. But I wouldn't blame it on the entire Senate just the Houston Senators.
The horse slaughter bill is in response to the alternative of shipping horses to Mexico where there would be no regulation of the whole process. At least in Texas we have standards that we must meet to make the slaughter of these animals as humane as possible.
What do you mean there would be no regulation on horsemeat in Mexico? Nonsense. Besides, it's for export (mostly Belgium and Japan, not France) where there are much stricter phitosanitary regulations than in the United States.
I guess Mexicans will just be doing the slaughterhouse jobs americans won't do.. in this case out of sentimentality, not for any rational economic reason.
Hey, actually horsemeat is damn tasty!! It's quite popular in the Low Countries. I've had it both smoked as sandwich meat as well as in steak form. Horse is some good eatin'.
While the thought of eating a horse creeps me out beyond belief, I understand that the French (no wonder they're weird) consider it no big deal. As long as they don't put it on a menu at Jeffrey's or Austin Land & Cattle (Austin Land & Horse?), I'm ok with it--in another country. Seems as noble an end as a glue factory to me.
