The unmitigated gall

President Bush plans to visit New Orleans and see a 'charter school.' How that man can walk back in that city after letting those people drown is further evidence that he's the asshole some of you elected president. (via)

Waa Waa. Ray Nagin and thier bimbo governor let them down. And they had the stupidity of electing that bone head again just goes to show you New Orleans can't even get out of its own way.

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 1, 2007 9:26 AM

I always thought people drowned because they quit swimming. Oops.

Isn't it interesting how there isn't any rebuilding problems in the other areas of the country that got hit by the hurricane, yet New Orleans just can't seem to get back on it's feet.

anon at March 1, 2007 11:18 AM

Bush wasn't exactly sheding any tears over it. He was too busy accepting guitars from third rate country singers and Condi was busy buying shoes and seeing Spam-a-lot.

You're doing a heck of a job, Bushie.

PanzerDSS at March 1, 2007 1:20 PM

Panzy,
I know it must be hard for you to understand how Government was unable to stop the hurricane from hitting Louisiana.
You might want to sit down for this:
There are some things that govt. can't control. I'm sorry, but it's true.
I seriously doubt you have any earthly idea how Bush feels about this or any other topic.
Dork.

anon at March 1, 2007 1:56 PM

President Bush doesn't care about anon people.

omglol at March 1, 2007 2:45 PM

Well, at least my mom loves me.

anon at March 1, 2007 3:08 PM

How Bush, or any other elected official for NOLA for that matter, feels is completely irrelevant. The failure at all levels of governement was a travesty and they all should've been tarred and feathered along with major contributors to global warming, who directly caused such a HUGE storm to form so easily. The government may not be able to control where a hurricane strikes, but it can help with legislation that stops global warming - which leads to warmer oceans - which leads to stronger hurricanes. It can also pull its collective head of of its collective ass when reacting to a disaster...and that goes for everyone involved!

Yucca at March 1, 2007 4:14 PM

Some of you = majority of Americans. Hater...

Karl Rove at March 1, 2007 4:16 PM

Wow Yucca I never thought you were nuts.

Until right now of course...

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 1, 2007 4:21 PM

That's quite the compliment, coming from you, Wonk.

I'm afraid I get alittle emotional where this hurricane is concerned- it destroyed the lives of many friends out there on the coast as well as the elementary school I attended. Perhaps caring about the lives of others is a little nuts, but I'll take that over your brand of sanity any day.

Yucca at March 1, 2007 4:49 PM

"The government may not be able to control where a hurricane strikes, but it can help with legislation that stops global warming - which leads to warmer oceans - which leads to stronger hurricanes."

What the hell happened last year? Did we dump a bunch of ice into the Atlantic to stop all the hurricanes? I was born in NOLA, and live in Texas now. Most of my family is still there. There have been worse storms(just ask Galveston) there just wasn't as much infrastructure to damage back then and there was 24 news to tell us how historic it was. The city wasn't ready for a direct, and it had missed previous hurricanes that were jsut as bad. Once itw as hit the city andstate officials blew it. They had a crap evacuation plan, and the Gov. drug here feet asking for federal aid.

Mississippi, Alabama and Texas(Rita) coasts got beat up too, and with less publicity and less aid have doene a better job rebuilding. Hell Florida has to rebuild whole towns all the time. Louisiana is just mucking ut up.

bl at March 1, 2007 4:58 PM

O please stop your breaking my f'n heart!

Caring about people is not nuts. In fact, I think thats a good thing, Yucca. *Pats on the back*

Claiming that Global Wamring caused a natural occuring event such as a Hurricane IS nuts.

Btw, this HUGE storm was a 3 when it hit landfall.

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at March 1, 2007 5:01 PM

It used to be that people spoke more respectfully of POTUS, if not out of respect for the individual, then out of respect for THE OFFICE and what it represents.

Rick B at March 1, 2007 5:20 PM

Rick - eh. No one has ever respected the office, or any office for that matter. Respect is earned.

'Respect for an office' sounds a lot like 'don't criticize the current occupant' and fuck a bunch of that.

mcblogger at March 1, 2007 5:39 PM

bl and anon, are you kidding me? There aren't any rebuilding problems in the other areas (meaning, primarily Mississippi) that got hit by Katrina? Fact check, please. Mississippi is having huge problems. Take, for example, one of the first news stories that popped up on google in response to "Mississippi recovery from Katrina" ... a nice heartwarming one about a citizen who got off her duff and went to help last August.

Warm and fuzzy, while illustrating the continuing devastation nall at the same time. What fun!

bl got it right about Nagin's non-evactuation plan and the subsequent botched response on all levels. But disaster response is FEMA's job and the Bush admin is to blame for emasculating that agency and relegating it to a back room in the Department of Homeland Insecurity. If you want a clear picture based on actual investigative reporting, as opposed to baseless rhetoric, go read one of the tomes written after the disaster. "The Great Deluge" by Douglas Brinkley is a good start.

Don't Mess w/ Pink at March 1, 2007 10:13 PM

I love you global warmers. Is there anything you can't blame on Global warming? Record hurricane season, total lack of hurricanes: global warming. Unseasonable warm winter weather, record snow falls in the Midwest: global warming. I stubbed my toe: global warming. I have a tummy ache: global warming. My cat coughed up a hairball: global warming.
Please, I know it's just great having an excuse for everything, but get over it already. You're pathetic and you don't know the first thing about science probably due to global warming.

anon at March 1, 2007 11:16 PM

DMwP - spot on as usual.

Anon - Douche, global warming creates more unpredictable and extreme weather. Like large snowstorms and hurricanes. Don't forget 2005 was a VERY heavy season. 2006 was comparatively mild. Who knows how 2007 will play out. However, the fact remains we are causing the atmosphere to warm and in so doing are altering weather patterns and intensity. Your mistake is in being a 'tard who only thinks global warming=Venus.

As for blaming Bush for it, that's a bunch of bullshit. He's not done shit about it but people have been kicking this football around for a while... Democrats and Republicans. Bush is just the latest in a long line of mongos who've failed to act. At least Clinton, however lamely, tried to do something. All Bush has done is question the science which makes him look even more like an idiot.

mcblogger at March 2, 2007 10:25 AM

Amen McBlogger...

Yucca at March 2, 2007 10:47 AM

McTool,
How surprising that you believe in man made global warming. Baaa baaaaa

anon at March 2, 2007 11:03 AM

Great response, anon. Really cuts to the bone of his argument.

Anonymous at March 2, 2007 2:25 PM

Thanks, I didn't know it would be that easy.
He really doesn't have an argument, citing a two year span of weather conditions isn't exactly a valid scientific model now is it?

anon at March 2, 2007 3:18 PM

anon- How far back would you like folks to go before you're convinced? The truth is that you'd rather scream and shout 'You're wrong' than acknowledge reality, admit there is a problem and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

What's today's useless bullshit? That global warming isn't real or that it's to expensive to fix? Or maybe it's the combo meal?

Loser.

mcblogger at March 3, 2007 11:57 AM

Oh, McB.... Mister Wholesale Mortgage Lender... Bet you don't hate Republicans who help your business along, huh?

Hypocrisy.

anon2 at March 3, 2007 8:46 PM

anon2 - I don't hate Republicans... I don't even hate original anon. As for my business, loans aren't originated in Democratic or Republican flavors.

mcblogger at March 4, 2007 11:08 PM

You're as flagrantly hateful toward Republicans as any blogger/activist in Austin. It's sad, because you're actually more articulate than many of your counterparts, PD notwithstanding.

The banking industry is decidedly conservative. Policy matters.

anon2 at March 5, 2007 1:17 AM

anon2 - Hateful... oh, hell. If you think I'm being hateful you've lived a very sheltered life.

Very conservative... especially when it comes to staying out of the personal lives of their employees.

mcblogger at March 5, 2007 10:32 AM

McTool,
I love your "everybody knows it's true" third grade rational on Global Warming.
You and the rest of the lemmings can go over the cliff.
I know Al Gore says it's true, which is even more reason to discount it as a political football.

Anon2, why are you bringing in personal info. on people into this forum? You are a huge dick. I don't care what you have to say about people in the vain of good fun, but bringing in personal info. makes you an asshole.
Whatever McTool does for a living has nothing to do with what happens here.

God, now I've defended McTool and have to go throw up.
