The Senate (and future governor David Dewhurst) took a strong stand yesterday and removed the entire management fo the Texas Youth Commission. Earlier in the day the governor had fired the chairman. The agency has been charged with gross mis-management and something about sodomozing boys. Apparently there was an early release program for the boys that provided sexual favors to folks. I don't know the details, I'm trying to remain naive and innocent and believe the world is full of good and not icky stuff.
Jesus H. Christ. Are we really supposed to cheer the senate for 'getting tough' and firing the management? The press writes the story as if the senate has swooped in and saved the day for these kids. Bullshit. In 2005 there was an inquiry. Nothing was done. Staffers complained. Nothing was done. The DA was contacted by employees. Nothing was done. The Attorney General got involved. Nothing was done. We first heard about this in an explosive newspaper article weeks ago. Nothing was done.
Finally the state senate did what should have been done two years ago. They aren't really heroes for being the ones to finally do something. They are just the first ones to do something right. Every other agency and person that heard about this two years ago and didn't run screaming in the capitol going "OMG they are raping boys!! DO SOMETHING" should be ashamed of themselves. You know, unless you endorse raping young boys.
Amen!
Amen, PD. Amen.
