The Environmental Integrity Project has released results of a state survey on Perry's plan for coal-fired power plants. Not surprisingly, a large majority of Texans don't think Perry's plan should be "fast-tracked" without further study of environmental and health ramifications. Two-thirds of Texans oppose the plan full-stop (you already know we are part of this group).
But you probably didn't need a survey like this to confirm what you already knew. When the rural farmer and urban mayor are both against it, it's probably not a popular idea.
For more results of the survey, go here.
TehT,
These are all well thought out and reasonable arguments. Unfortunatly Rick Perry doesn't give a rats' ass what you think.
(Unless you gave him a few million bucks recently.)
TehT - Such a smart answer! If I weren't married...
I agree Texas needs more power plants to meet the growing energy demands of our state, and I agree coal is a good choice because (1) it's not oil and (2) it's "homegrown". However, there is no compelling reason NOT to utilize the new "clean coal" technologies - there have been concerns about increased cost associated with the new technology, yet I'm certain the operators would simply pass those expenses on to the consumer anyway. I'd be willing to pay a couple of extra dollars a month on electricity if I knew that I was also protecting the natural beauty of Texas at the same time. Seems like a "no-brainer" really. Thoughts?
