Rep. Edmund Kuempel, a Seguin Republican,

is a fucking idiot. Everybody has already weighed in on this year's sexy cheerleader bill but we had to point out that in this Tyler Morning Telegraph interview, Kuempel, opens his mouth and confirms his stupidity. He says:

"This opens up the fun of hunting to additional people, and I think that's great," Kuempel said.
Yes, shooting animals is super fun! (Shooting Republican lawyers is probably more fun, though)
"I've seen this on TV before..."
Ah, legislation based on things we've seen on TV! It's a new trend. I would like to see a law requiring women to exit limos without wearing panties. (I'm not linking to the pictures of Parasite Hilton and Britney's coochies supporting my legislative agenda.)

We don't mean to sound insensitive to those with handicaps, but we're going to anyway. Blind people should not be shooting at things. It's a recipe for disaster. We also think blind people should not drive vehicles or perform surgery. We'll add on that we don't think deaf people should be music reviewers.

Frickin Blind People with Frickin Lasers

RawHide at December 13, 2006 1:10 PM

Agreed. What an idiot.

It seems to me that the seeing-eye-person is the actual hunter in this case, with the trigger-pulling blind person being a de-facto extension of the weapon.

On a related note, I am no longer shocked by anything.

If Rep. Kuempel is an idiot for slightly altering the law so that blind people can do more safely something they are already capable of doing, then you are a fucking idiot for the equivalent in blogging. We'll call it Blind-Blogging.

Blind-Blogging: The act of simply linking posts that other bloggers write or create because the linker does not have the slightest substantial knowledge on the subject on which he chose to create a blog.

You miss the whole point of the legislation, Pinkdome; but that is not surprising because 90% of what you post is someone else's blog or something one of your friends told you to post.

ThePinkReader at December 13, 2006 3:00 PM

TPR: Where did you learn about gun safety? When learning how to shoot as a kid and taking an NRA class as an adult, one of the rules was to *always* know where your weapon is pointed and to make sure it was *always* pointed in a safe direction in case of accidental discharge.

Ok, so the law would make it possible for blind people to shoot at a target while a sighted person is helping. But what happens in between? There's a big difference between safely helping a blind person on the range and helping them out in the field. Unless the law also states that the blind person only takes the weapon just before shooting and hands it back just afterwards, I don't want to be anywhere in the vicinity. H.B. 308 just opens up the use of laser sites in the field, it doesn't address the general safety issue.

Guns don't kill people. F'ing idiots with guns kill people.

Yup. "ThePinkReader" is probably one of those douchebags at tom delay's web-abomination.

We call what you do "Trolling", TPR. The point of the legislation is to be fucking stupid.

Blind people cannot hunt independently of a person with functional eyes (eyes being the business end of sighting and aiming a firearm).

This is akin to a bill allowing blind driving, as long as a "sighted person" is in the passenger seat to direct. Although I guess it worked out in "Scent of a Woman".

OH SNAP I guess I just got served. DAMN YOU AL PACINO!!!

TehT at December 13, 2006 4:53 PM

TehT - This bill does not allow blind people to hunt. There is nothing prohibiting them now. Read the bill.

ThePinkReader at December 14, 2006 10:09 AM

I can't come up with exactly the right appellation, but somehow, some way, this bill should be named after Dick Cheney.

Gritsforbreakfast at December 14, 2006 2:25 PM

It's called the Dick Cheney no longer has an excuse bill.

Holden McGroin at December 14, 2006 3:22 PM

ThePinkReader -- so what. Blind people still can't hunt independently. It's a stupid bill relating to an even stupider phenomenon. And who the fuck cares anyway. Only like 100 blind people will ever take on the challenge of hunting anyway.

TehT at December 14, 2006 5:01 PM

I've been using this bill as an example all over the state, HB308, fucking priceless.

Welcome to Texas Y'all

Please take down this site. It just wasted my time by popping up in a Google search.
