President Bush and his twisted logic continue to astound me. In 2005, George said that he believes children should be raised by a man and a woman in addition to supporting a constitutional ban on same-sex marriages. He strongly believes this to shore up support amongst ignorant bigots and self-hating, closeted Republicans. He means it except when it comes to hiring staff or some lesbo daughter of someone he knows gets pregnant.
George--when you advocate a position as rigid as you do, you can't apply it to everyone except people you know. Doesn't work. Why the media allows you to get away with this shows the complete lack of balls in those that put pen to paper.
Same thing with that terrorist, James Dobson. He spouts off hate speech against homosexuality and then says, "Gee...I don't mean to offend Mary Cheney."
Just so people won't accuse me of being vague, I'll make it very clear. They can all go to hell as far as I'm concerned.
"Acknowledging the reality that Mary Cheney would be a good parent is a huge step for a man like Bush - and one more chink in the wall of bigotry, ignorance and hatred being maintained by the Religious Right."
No it's not, Dennis. See...in George's world it is with no irony at all that he opposes gay marriage and then accepts Mary Cheney. People like that don't believe rules they want to impose on others apply to them or their circle. I know because it's the same way I think. We call it "PLU" (People Like Us). Rules apply to everyone else that do not apply to us.
Way to be honest Pinkdome!
You're right, only we can have double standards.
Actually, y'all he sidestepped this one neatly. He never said that gays can't be good parents... just that the ideal is a mom and a dad. So his saying that Mary will make a loving and good mom doesn't contratdict his previous statement (if you split a few hairs).
Now that said, I think that his position on gay marriage is dumb, stubborn and hateful.
"dumb, stubborn and hateful" are his positions on ALL subjects.
It is twisted logic, of course. But Bush is trapped by his stubbornness and his refusal to accept or consider ideas outside of the narrow mental framework in which he thinks. But we elected him knowing how pathetically limited he was - and now we are paying the price, God help us. Acknowledging the reality that Mary Cheney would be a good parent is a huge step for a man like Bush - and one more chink in the wall of bigotry, ignorance and hatred being maintained by the Religious Right.
