Thank God for the Ohio Legislature

It makes Texas' Legislature seem like a brain trust. A new law in Ohio allows pet owners to establish a trust so that in the event of their death, their pet will be taken care of in perpetuity.

In other Ohio news, apparently every single issue has been resolved. The state's budget overflows, the education system is ranked number one, there is no poverty and all potholes have been filled.

May we suggest this as Warren Chisum's next cause celebre? [AndrewSullivan]

Actually, these trusts exist in many states, and if you have an expensive long living pet, like an exotic bird or pet with special health needs, it actually makes sense. Don't be an animal hater or equate taking care of a loved animal with any bills filed by that troll.

Of course, Texas beat Ohio to the punch on enacting pet trust legislation. It took priority over school finance last session.

Tex. Prop. Code ยง 112.037
Effective 1/1/06

Sec. 112.037. TRUST FOR CARE OF ANIMAL.
