We just don't understand this logic. Fifty-four percent of those surveyed don't think Perry is doing a great job, but with such a crowded field of candidates he still holds on to a lead among likely voters. With 38% support among those surveyed, he's the likely winner. Bell and Strayhorn are in a statistical dead-heat for second place and Kinky's numbers seem to have bottomed out at around 10%, 12% if you're being generous.
As we've spent time talking with some of your favorite pundits, elected officials and drunk bloggers (We have a club) we all agree that the polls this year are hard to believe, hard to decipher and the other thing we discuss is how do you pinpoint exactly where the Strayhorn campaign imploded? We can pinpoint it for Kinky...*cough* negroes *cough*.
The other talk about the governor's race is Chris Bell. The Democrats hoping against hope that he's got a shot, all the while lamenting his lack of personality. Sounds to me they are looking to 'John Kerry' him after the election. Blaming his lack of personality for not inspiring voters. We don't blame Bell, we blame the Democrats that keep giving us these kind of candidates to choose from in the first place.
At least Strayhorn, Friedman and Perry all have personalities that can generate some passion...whether it be love or hate. Bell could put a policy wonk to sleep.
^ about the same time Democrats realize that in large part policy is meaningless and personality matters to a large percentage of voters.

Carole began the pooch-screw when she abandoned the Democratic party to become an "Independent". Personally, I loved her for that move, but it ticked a bunch of yellow dogs off.
Then, she lost her damned MIND when she insisted on being "Grandma" on the ballot. Embarrassment a la mode!
Yet, despite all this, I will cast my vote for her. She did a kickass job as mayor and State Comptroller. She has shown that she has leadership skills and isn't afraid to piss anyone off. I believe in her.
OK, Sanchez, the Democratic nominee from four years ago, gives support and money to Strayhorn. Why, ego. He figures if he can't buy it, no one else can. Strayhorn implodes because she can't hide behind the Republican ticket. Kinky is making a movie. This isn't that difficult to figure out. It's the Democratic leadership. And now it's time to get new ones. This is a conservative state and liberals only win if they are totally united and organized.
The Democrats didn't "give" us a candidate like Chris Bell. If anything, Democrats have been falling over themselves telling everyone why Chris is so terrible. Chris is the only person, the only Democrat, who has grabbed his balls and said fuck you to Tom DeLay, Nancy Pelosi, the DC insiders, the Austin in-crowd and to those sissy ass Texas Democrats who have rolled over & conceded to take it up the ass from Rick Perry and the Republicans. All those Martin Frost assholes are just pissed off that they didn't get to choose the nominee, and now they aren't doing a damn thing to help Chris or themselves. You know why? Because it's more important for all of them to be right than to get Rick Perry out of office.
Chris Bell would make a damn good governor. It's too fucking bad his own party has sabotaged his chances.
Tony Sanchez was nothing more than a thoughtless, corrupt patron from Laredo and he got more love from the Party.
Get rid of Perry and Vote for Strayhorn.

So, what do we actually do when this all plays out? Eiram is beyond right. The defection of the money Dems to Grandma is BEYOND inexcusable. BEYOND belief. And their continued "Chris Bell is a lovely man but he can't be elected" line is POISONOUS.
The money Dems who went to Strayhorn are the key to this entire SNAFU. They have played into Rove's hand and will now deliver our state to Cintra, Neil Bush's testing company, and whoever else's deep pockets need a little extra lining.
Walking dogs around Tarrytown yesterday, I commented on the lack of yard signs compared to Rosedale. My friend explained, "Oh there used to be a whole lot of Strayhorn signs around." So, with Grandma's support on the ground literally disappearing, how will these "realists" explain themselves to those of us who are not only Democrats but democrats? Vichy France keeps coming to mind...
