The secret of my success

In politics, we like to think voters pay attention to issues and remember what candidates are the screw-ups, the cheats, the nutjobs and the heroes. (I had to put that last because there aren't very many of them) What we tend to forget is that the voters don't care and don't pay attention. If I ran ads every day telling you Rick Perry raised your taxes, you would eventually believe me and not vote for him. Don't believe me? Here's a prime example of an average Texas voter's logic: "I really don't care which party they're with," she said while whisking through a convenience store on a recent afternoon. "If they'll just vote to lower taxes and for nothing else, really, I'll vote for 'em." [source]

My invoice to all you candidates busily changing your campaign messages is now in the mail. It is due upon receipt. You're welcome.

The conservatives have thoroughly poisoned public discourse with their endless promotions of tax cuts and chanting "It's your money." Yeah, it is our money, and sometimes it is better for the government to spend it on projects likes roads and levees that benefit us all and that none of us on our own would build.
