More Kinky

State Rep. Senfronia Thompson (I heart you Speaker Thompson!) weighed in on Kinky's comments about Katrina evacuees

"He has demonstrated a total lack of human sensitivity ... The people of Katrina have lost everything and are suffering not only from the loss of loved ones, but the trauma of the event itself. What has precipitated from this tragedy is behavior that results from a disastrous event."

"Kinky Friedman has called himself a 'compassionate redneck,' " said Thompson, chairwoman of the Texas Legislative Black Caucus. "He would do well henceforth to highlight his compassion while de-emphasizing his redneck tendencies."

Kinky's camp fired back, saying
"Politicians have allowed political correctness to stand in the way of the truth for too long, and the truth is that Ms. Thompson's city has seen a 20% increase in violent crimes. Why isn't that the issue? As far as we know, Kinky is the only candidate for governor who housed a Katrina evacuee for six months. He doesn't talk just talk about compassion. He lives it.

And finally, in her own statement, she says:
"He would do well henceforth to highlight his compassion while de-emphasizing his redneck tendencies"...Isn't she using a colloquial stereotype while at the same time condemning the use of them?

It's barely mid-September and we're already seeing some saucy words flying around, anyone else think the debate is gonna the most entertaining thing we've seen in years? For those of you keeping score at home, there are now three gubernatorial candidates up on the air with commercials, all positive stuff. I'm waiting for the real negative ads to come out - Bell not being able to fire a gun at Kinky in blackface in the back of Grandma's taxpayer paid suburban about to run over Rick Perry on a toll road. Too much?

red·neck
n. Offensive Slan.
Used as a disparaging term for a member of the white rural laboring class, especially in the southern United States.
A white person regarded as having a provincial, conservative, often bigoted attitude.

For shame Mrs. Thompson, for shame!

But, uhm, Kinky describes himself as a redneck. It's the colloquial stereotype that he himself uses - all the time. So I fail to see how he'd find it offensive.

Unless he hates himself.

Kinky stopped being cute long, but long ago.

She's such a rascist.

If a white calls a black a n___ then he is a bigot or racist. No so if a black calls a black the same. If a redneck calls a redneck (or himself) a redneck, no one cares. If a black calls a redneck a redneck, he still doesn't care, he just agrees. Just don't call him a liberal (in front of his friends) or badmouth his favorite NASCAR driver, dog, or truck, and by all means don't mess with his hat.
