Just watching the trailer for the new movie, The U.S. vs John Lennon, made me wonder what in the world it would take to get masses of people inspired enough to change government policies we disagree with in today's world.
PD - "..what in the world it would take to get masses of people inspired enough to change government policies we disagree with in today's world”?
The same things that have inspired revolutions throughout history; separation of the classes, on-going wars, increasing poverty and ignorance and intolerance of others. Hmmm. Sounds like we should get our guns loaded and pantries stocked.
If you wanna see the people take to the streets today just start up a draft. For double the excitement draft women and college kids too.
I'll probably see this movie, and I'm all for what it says, but...
Where do the profits for the movie go? I mean, basically, this documentary (and some others like it) are better-cut, better-edited versions of VH1's "Behind the Music" series, where you get old footage and splice it around 20-25 folks that interview in front of a blue screen. Thus -- it costs relatively little to make, so even if it only makes $10 million, the production company is going to see a killer profit.
I love Lennon, he had a huge effect on my life, too. And I'm about as big a "no fucking war" kind of guy as there is. But really -- if I go see this movie, what am I doing besides lining the pockets of some production company?
Meanwhile, the only folks that see these movies are folks that agree with the principle of the movie to begin with. I mean, if even in the trailer, you're seeing "Lennon was life, Nixon and Bush are death" we know they're targeting to folks pretty set with their liberal views -- folks that haven't forgotten history.
The only recent political documentary that really stood the chance to change anything was Farenheit 9/11, and Moore went too far to effectively change anyone's minds.
Just my observations.
All I need to know about John Lennon is that he married Yoko. Yuk.
The U.S. v. Oprah: There would be some pissed off housewives.
The U.S. v. Jessica Alba: People love hot girls
The U.S. v. Dave Chappelle: Maybe.
The U.S. v. Kobe Bry...woops.
