Hillary Clinton takes a page out of her husband's playbook with the winning strategy, "It's the American Dream, stupid." What a politics 101 way to get back to the principles the Democrats always win at...middle class America. I know what you're thinking, "What middle class?" Me too, It sucks to pull in six figures and still be poor. "A lot of Americans can't work any harder, borrow any more or save any less," she said. Girl, I hear ya cluckin!
Unlike most Americans, I have very little debt. I do believe in contributing to the economy so I buy a lot of shit. You know, the usual...drugs, hookers and bottles of Veuve Ciquot. I have a lot of friends that think playing the lottery is a sound retirement plan. My retirement plan is much more sensible. I plan to marry a rich old bag and push her wheelchair down the stairs.
The American Dream is all about being in a place where you can own your own home, do with it what you want, and be free from intimidation. Under President Bush, home ownership, especially among minorities, has shot through the roof. Liberal justices on the Supreme Court, in the Kelo decision, decided the government is free to take your home just because it wants more tax revenue. Today, the biggest threat to the American Dream comes from Islamic terrorists trying to destroy our country. The President has taken the fight abroad, so we don't have to fight at home.
Liberals always seem so pessimistic about the current state of affairs. Unemployment is low; job creation is up; home ownership is up; GDP is growing quickly, and there hasn't been a successful terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11.
I don't think PinkDome has ever said that W has NEVER done anything good for America. Even by accident, the man has had some success. However, I don't believe the biggest threat to the American Dream is Islamic terrorism; that is the biggest threat to national security.
No, the biggest threat to the American Dream is the increasing amount of debt faced by Americans and the growing difference between the Upper and Lower class.
Every objective study has shown that the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer. Hardly news. However, this puts a strain on the middle class, a neccesary thing for our society to work. Many people who lived comfortably for two generations or more are being squeezed out by unfair government practices and a general "fuck the non-rich" attitude that legislators seems to have taken.
Without class mobility, without funding things that encourage it like education and health care (if you're spending all your income on doctor bills, you can't be buying a new 4Runner, can you?), America will become a country where a few live in gated communities with snipers on their roofs to keep out the riff raff.
So basically, it'll be Dallas.
Liberal judges was not the issue in Kelo. If you read the opinions, it was clear the justices were not happy with the law the way it stood but had to be true to the law in making their decision, i.e. they acted exactly the way they should have and anyone who truly stands for the idea of justices interpreting but not rewriting the law has to support that (i.e. anyone who respects the legal system in this country). Labeling judges as "liberal" because you don't like the law is not going to help anyone or change any of the problems this country has.
Tony, job creation during this expansion has been the worst of any any expansion in more than 40 years. That's fact. Wage's have shrunk, in real terms, not grown. The unemployment rate is understated by underemployment as well as dropping people off the rolls when benefits run out.
The economy, far from booming in a meaningful way, is gasping for breath. All it will take to bring it all down is one bad Treasury auction. That's how close to the edge the Republicans have taken us by focusing more on ideology than on common sense.
I appreciate that you have some kind of need to parrot talking points from the Administration but give it rest. We hear it all the time and just because you repeat them(once again) doesn't make them reality.
Hillary has gotten almost as boring as Chris Bell. It's sad.
