Ken Lay Dead

Enron founder Kenneth Lay died early today in Aspen. I guess the family hasn't released how he died, but I bet everyone will jump to the conclusion that he committed suicide in order to not face prison. Or at least I will.

CNN story.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Enron founder Kenneth Lay died early Wednesday in Aspen, a family spokeswoman said. He was 64.

In a statement, spokeswoman Kelly Kimberly said, "The Lays have a very large family with whom they need to communicate, and out of respect for the family we will release further details at a later time."

In May, Lay was found guilty of nine counts of fraud and conspiracy related to the collapse of Enron, the company he founded that grew into the seventh largest company before it imploded after an accounting scandal.

Cody at July 5, 2006 9:19 AM

some one best prove to me that he didnt just up and run to eastern europe. i want to see the body.

All I can say is, check fingerprints. Check DNA. Make *absolutely* sure that the body you think is the coffin is in the coffin. Otherwise, he may be conning us all and living a life of luxury on some
faraway island ...

not that he ever conned anyone ...

I don't want to live in a world where everyone always thinks the other person is lying, cheating or stealing. For heavens sake, let's assume the poor man did die until there is evidence to say otherwise.

And despite what many may think he did, he was still a human and should be treated with dignity and fairness - as we would expect those in our family to be treated or even ourselves.

Geez people. He had a heart attack. I hear he has a puppy in Houston you can go kick too.

Will at July 5, 2006 10:13 AM

I want the address of that puppy, stat!

PanzerDSS at July 5, 2006 10:31 AM

Hell yes it was suicide...or guilt that killed him...wait, we're talking about Ken Lay here, nevermind!

I Hate Dallas at July 5, 2006 10:53 AM

My guess is the stress from the trial and the thought of a long-term prison sentence was too much on the heart. Too bad that after all these years of work that he will be remembered not for the good he may have done but by the bad he and Enron did against the company, the employees and the many who relied on their Enron stock to get them through the autumn years of their life. What a tragedy.

Where's the burial?

I need to find my dancing shoes.

May he rest in peace and pay estate taxes.

BooRadley at July 5, 2006 3:21 PM

They are going to have to keep his final resting place a deep dark secret. The line of screwed investors, employees, and vendors looking to p*ss on his grave will be very long.

pfft at July 5, 2006 5:01 PM

Now they say it's coronary artery disease. . . that he had clogged arteries and had probably had a previous heart attack before this final one.

Ken Lay was a good friend of Bush. If you think he's dead, better give your head a shake.
When he died he was creamated (supposedly)
real quick.
I saw a photo of his smiling corpse in a morque.
It was a very poor job useing Photoshop.
