Smarmy Governor Perry Continues Attack Plans

The Statesman continues to print the governor's talking points and press releases as fact. Even though I've done no research on this how do I know it's true? Well, on April 9 I noticed that every comment quoted in the paper by Perry's staff called any comment by Carole Keeton Strayhorn a "shrill attack" and lo and behold in today's newspaper this quote appears: "We've all been down this road before: Carole Strayhorn is angry and wants attention, so she launches a shrill, trumped-up attack," Perry re-election spokesman Black said.

Back then we had a contest to come up with an adjective to describe Perry. There was no consensus (but lots of great submissions) so I just picked smarmy. I guess I could also have picked "screaming queen" because it would balance out "shrill attack" quite nicely.

What I'd like is for Carole Keeton Strayhorn to walk up in his face with a bullhorn and say, "You're an asshole" and see if that's shrill enough for him. Jerk thinks we don't notice the subtly in his labeling her as shrill and he's wrong. We do notice and think it's petty, and a really good sign of your disrespect for women in general, much less an elected official with many years of community service.

I have noted that Perry ignores Chris Bell, preferring to attack CKRS. Chris Bell ignores Perry, also preferring to attack CKRS. Bell should be going after the goobernator with all guns blazing. To do elsewise, helps goober's reelection.

pfft at June 1, 2006 8:29 AM

If Bell fell in the woods, would anyone notice?

original TREY at June 1, 2006 9:54 AM

Carol Keeton Crazy eats orphans.

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 1, 2006 10:01 AM

Why would Perry even bother to mention Bell's name? Nobody in the state (outside of Dem activists) even knows who he is. Perry would just be helping the poor dude out.

Grandma 5 names needs to just keep talking to the press in order to gaurantee another 4 years of Governor P.

I ask myself on a daily basis how an incompentent asshole like Rick Perry can face such poor opposition for reelection. This is about to be the man that has held the Governor's office in Texas for the longest period of time ever. Scary stuff.

For the future of Texas--vote for Grandma Strayhorn--she has a spine and a brain.

Save Texas at June 1, 2006 11:20 AM

This is all quite pointless, the right-wing "Christians" will mostly all vote for the idiot giving him 25% - then all he needs is 10-15% more and he is in. The dumbest thing Kinky/Strayhorn/Bell did was all want to run (ego I guess). And because of them, we will have to suffer from more years of right-wing Christian idiocy.

Oh, by the way, I just heard South Carolina might vote to kill all sexual molesters -via the states death penalty. Could Texas be far behind? Today - sexual molesters. Tomorrow - nasty gays and lesbians! Praise Jesus!

WTF?

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 1, 2006 12:10 PM

It's a hyperbolic argument but not altogether invalid.

original TREY at June 1, 2006 12:34 PM

Wonk, i think he is referring to the irony or contradiction involved when so called "religious" states such as Texas and South Carolina are so quick to propose killing people.

Somehow, I think Jesus would have been a rehabilitator of criminals, but who am I to say.

I love it when boys have a big......
vocabulary. Way to go Trey!

BacchusXY at June 1, 2006 12:39 PM

Thanks Trey. I seem to be one of the few on this board at least that sees the extreme dangers of a (possible) Christian theocracy. Perhaps Austinites are not as quick to see it as Midland and Austin are at opposite ends of the spectrum. If I lived in a liberal oasis, I might be as placid and content as many who post here.

gayinmidland at June 1, 2006 12:42 PM

what is the manly man version of shrill?

pfft at June 1, 2006 1:48 PM

Shrall. Rhymes with ball(s).

SuperWow! at June 1, 2006 2:04 PM

As time continues to pass, and I see The Kinkster isn't really saying much, I am becoming more and more sure that Carole Superfrajalisticexpeealodocious will be getting my vote.

jimmycity at June 1, 2006 2:15 PM

Bacc - are you trying to get in my pants? Wonk'll be jealous!

original TREY at June 1, 2006 3:10 PM

Nein

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at June 1, 2006 3:13 PM

Unless you live in Austin, why would you expect anything else? This has always been a conservative state. Carole fucked up because she couldn't decide whether she was conservative. Perry switched parties but was always conservative. We praise Bentsen because he knew how to be conservative and still be favorable to key constituencies of the Democratic party. Thus, he was electable in Texas and Austin.
