Well, until now I'd never even heard of Rep. Gohmert, but his bizarre comments on the floor of the House today regarding Rep. Murtha were beyond the pale. I put the transcript in the permalink, but the video is a pleasure to watch for just an excercise in "Retards in Action" if nothing else.
Anyone interested in knowing why Rep. Murtha is so respected on the Hill for his service simply needs to read his bio. After that, compare the bio of Louie. All will become clear to you about why I think he's a douchebag.
Rep. Gohmert: Let me close by saying some have not had nice things to say about our colleague Mr. Murtha, and others wanting to pull out of Iraq quickly. I understand the faithful visitation that he does routinely. So i say thank god for his big heart. I say thank god for his compassion. Thank god for his visits to the wounded. Thank god for his ministering to grieving families. But thank god he was not here and prevailed after the bloodbaths at Normandy and in the Pacific or we would be here speaking Japanese or German. Thank you.
Rep. Murtha: Was the gentleman at any of those locations? Either at normandy or any of those locations?
Rep. Gohmert: You want to know which locations?
Rep. Murtha: Yeah. Normandy?
Rep. Murtha: I say were you there?
Rep. Gohmert: No, sir. I wasn't.
Rep. Murtha: Were you in Vietnam?
Rep. Gohmert: No, sir.
Rep. Murtha: Iraq?
Rep. Gohmert: No. I have been over there. I haven't been fighting.
Rep. Murtha: Boots on the ground?
Rep. Gohmert: I do admire the gentleman's compassion and all he has done for our wounded. He has done a great service that would be you, Mr. Murtha.
The really sad thing is that the Democrat running against Gohmert Pyle is a raging homphobe.

My displeasure with Louie Gohmert is two-fold. He is currently the congressman that represents the district I live in. So I get to deal with him far too often. Further, I worked for both Max Sandlin's campaign and his district office. Let me simply state, I could only wish this was Louie Gohmert's dumbest comment or statements. I recognize that Gohmert is a Republican in a certainly Republican district. I doubt any (D) could win in that district. But Louie Gohmert doesn't have the mental capacity for the critical thinking needed for this type of service. The man simply isn't smart. This portion of Texas deserves better representation and I have prayed that Kevin Eltife would run and kick the shit out of him. I don't necessarily agree with everything Senator Eltife stands for, but he would at least have the mental capacity to determine what would be good for this district compared to what would be good for party leadership.
