Dixie Chicks are No. 1

The Dixie Chicks new album Taking the Long Way debuted at number one on the country albums chart and the Billboard 200 overall chart. And it's definitely worthy of that spot, as the album's great.

I won't use this space to write a record review, but instead to congratulate them on getting the number one spot without the assistance of country music radio or the rednecks across the country that shitted [shat?] themselves when Natalie Maines spoke her mind. Oh, and fuck you to anyone that thinks the statement "just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas" is worthy of sending a death threat. Jesus, folks, just turn off their music if it pisses you off that much.

In case you haven't seen or heard it yet, enjoy the video to their first single:

This single is also our MySpace song. Just another chance to remind you to be our friend!

Love the new CD. It totally kicks ass!

Dixie Chick Martie Maguire told Time magazine: "I'd rather have a small following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith."

Amen. The CD rocks. I haven't actually bought a CD in ages, but I bought this one last week. And being a chick from West Texas who has occassionally pissed off people back home for my un-Republican opinions--the CD totally resonates with me.

It wasn't un-Republican in nature. It was un-Texan. Even I can't stand Bush (and somehow am still a Christian), yet I would not disown him. I do what every other smart Texan does. I make fun of everyone that elected him. They are the ones we should be ashamed to be associated with.

We're supposed to keep our mouths shut about how ineffective the president is, but yell at the people who elected him? This is what "the other smart Texans do"? Interesting. This must be democracy at work.
