That's what I'd like to say to the CEO of ExxonMobil that told us all to use less gasoline. It was a very Mary Antoinette moment, wasn't it? I'm all for Capitalism (with a capital C) and soaring profits and supply and demand, but give me a break. Congress is weak (and stupid with a $100 tax credit idea), the Presidents of the last twenty years have ignored the fact that oil is not a renewable resource, the car manufacturers have helped create a demand for fuel-guzzling mega machines turning back the tide of conservation and economy built from the crisis of the 1970's.
And now...now when stupid Americans scream at rising fuel costs we expect it to all be fixed right away like a bunch of whining spoiled children. So the CEO of the big oil company says use less of our product. Really? Great idea. How do you propose we do that? Stop urban sprawl and embrace crappy American public transportation? Stop driving to work, school, and park the SUVs?
Quite the conundrum. Don't you love it when years of ignoring a problem come back to bite you in the ass? Remind yourself when you read a shocking report that the sea levels are rising at an alarming rate and you have to go pack up your house at the beach because it's about to be a really expensive coral reef.
Grey's Anatomy fan, are you?
HAHA, SHUT UP! That was such a good line, you Know I had to use it.
"You didn't mention big oil killing off public transportation projects like high-speed rail between Austin-Dallas-Houston-SA."
You cannot be serious if you think this is a major threat to "big oil."
Best solution is to put on the taxes at the refining level.
I hate to be the contrarian, but he's absolutely right. The immutable laws of supply and demand dictate that a decrease in demand leads to an increase in the supply and lower prices.
However we go about it, we must learn to buy and use less gasoline.
Of course, he and every other person in the oil industry is culpable to the fact that it is going to be pretty damn hard to ween ourselves off of petroleum.
Just say no to oil.
We have some massage oil. Should I say "no" to it?
