OK WTF?

20-10 vote in the Senate to suspend the rules to take up HB 3 on final reading. Who walked out? Pussy. Is this the "Dewhurst Plan"?

Jackson's up at the mike trying to cover his ass for his bid for Congress now.
Did they give him appraisal caps/rollbacks in exchange for his walking during the vote?
HB 3 glides on out of the Senate on a 16-14 vote, I bet Perry's waiting outside the door to sign it before anyone changes their minds.
So what do y'all think will happen now? Will Perry have a huge ceremony tommorrow to sign the bill with an impressive guest, or wait until the rest of the bills pass?
As is pointed out in the comments, it appears Jackson flipped again to let it get to the floor. Eltife, Jackson, Janek and Staples joined the (real) Dems in voting against it.

Jackson went back I think

He's going to have to shave that mustache too.

Kabanx at May 2, 2006 6:02 PM

Sounds like he got a five percent appraisal cap out of Ogden.

Blue at May 2, 2006 6:09 PM

no he got mad at Hotze for making the same promises to talton

RockStar at May 2, 2006 6:11 PM

still sounds like he got an appraisal cap deal, hopefully that'll add enough of a bomb inside hb 1 to derail it

Jackson voted against

Anonymous at May 2, 2006 6:22 PM

Lindsay walked, so that's irrelevant. As others said, Jackson flipped. Again.

When CA did stupid shit like this back in the 1970s, they went from being one of the top states in education to the WORST state in education.

Twenty years from now--when we are comparing our education system to CA, Arkansas, and MS,
we will look back at this point in time and say, "Wow--tyhe Rs really fucked this state up, didn't they?"

UT_guy at May 2, 2006 11:04 PM

Prop 13 is a lot more restrictive than what I thought I heard. Remember as well that the business tax will be a dedicated funding source for public schools.

Blue at May 3, 2006 8:29 AM

Jackson and Ogden's little discussion actually sounded something like "not only are the schools not getting any money out of HB 3, we'll actively work to make sure they get hammered (along with city and county governments upon whom the state is heaping more and more unfunded mandates) in HB 1 and anything else we take up. No money for those profligate educators!"

Thank you to the 4 R's that did stand up and vote their conscience.

I just don't have much to say recently. Such is life. I've basically been doing nothing. Basically nothing seems worth bothering with. Oh well.

I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen, but I don't care. Basically nothing seems worth thinking about. I can't be bothered with anything recently.
