Tom DeLay will call it quits

Finally. From CNN: "Rep. Tom DeLay will drop out of his re-election race, two Republican congressional sources tell CNN." It's still somewhat breaking, so there aren't any more details beyond that. . . yet.

Austinist has more.

PD adds: Excuse me while I do a happy dance. Of all the dreams we've had in politics, could this be true? Could reality and sense finally break through the bullshit we are forced to swallow everyday? Surely not. We are so skeptical but oh..so hopeful.

Stay tuned. And while you're at it, either create a prayer chain or plan a new reason to party like it is 1999. Whatever floats your boat.

We ask you to submit photoshops of Tom DeLay ASAP for posting. We'll give a prize to the best photoshop entry.

I guess the democrats won't have hottub Tom to kick around anymore. If I were Tom Craddick I would be afraid. Very afraid.

So Earle gets the ending he wanted to his little movie ......

Someone smarter than me on Texas election law... can Delay be replaced on the ballot after he won the primary?

Cody at April 3, 2006 10:12 PM

From BOR:

"DeLay said he is likely to leave by the end of May, depending on the Congressional schedule and finishing his work on a couple of issues. He said he will change his legal residence to his condominium in Alexandria, Va., from his modest two-story home on a golf course here in the 22nd District of Texas. "I become ineligible to run for election if I'm not a resident of the state of Texas," he said, turning election law to his purposes for perhaps on last time. State Republican officials will then be able to name another Republican candidate to face Democrat Nick Lampson, a former House members who lost his seat in a redistricting engineered by DeLay."

Cody at April 3, 2006 10:15 PM

So. Either Hot Tub Tom has a nice lobbying job lined up, or he's in deep legal doo-doo.

Hell, maybe both!

Maybe Cheney's going to resign, and Dubya's going to nominate the Hammer as Veep.

j at April 3, 2006 10:23 PM

Now might be a good time to remind people to support Nick Lampson for Congress at :

Give him a few bucks if you can.

Cody at April 3, 2006 10:41 PM

Fantabulous!

Don't forget that Bob Smither will be on the ballot as well:

Poor Virginians, as if they didn't have enough troubles with that ass Warner.

I don't have photoshop and even if I did, I wouldn't know what the hell to do with it.

But seems to me that a DeLay head on a fierce cockroachy rampant body standing on its hind legs would be hard to beat, and poetic to boot.

Jesus B. Ochoa at April 3, 2006 11:57 PM

Ochoa, what's your problem with Warner?
He's the man.

Blue at April 4, 2006 12:01 AM

Ochoe doesn't know much of what he's talking about. Even when he's going after R's, not someone to really look to...

I'll save my happy dance for when he's wearing prison togs.

What great news to wake up to this morning.

If I could photoshop it would be something like the wizard of oz, but with Delay's feet sticking out from under Dorothy's house and munchkins dancing about...

James at April 4, 2006 9:33 AM

I guess I should have been more explicit - I should have said Sen. Warner, he of the bushy eyebrows and small brain - but then, old folks like me tend to think young folks (probably) like Blue and the wizard are smarter than they really are -

Jesus B. Ochoa at April 4, 2006 9:39 AM

That seat is going Republican now.

newswatching at April 4, 2006 10:41 AM

Ok, Ochoa, just because you're old doesn't mean you can use Alzheimers as an excuse for your failure to clarify.
A simple question was asked, and you, being the wrinkley type you are, start to shake your fist at the hellions who dare step in your yard.
Thanks for the shout-out, Old Man River.

BLue at April 4, 2006 10:46 AM

Ochoe takes dumps on tonka toys and blames it on his alzheimers

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 4, 2006 11:00 AM

Why are y'all pickin' on Ochoa?
