One of the scariest pieces of that legislation is the provision for three research centers. I would suspect that the recipients will gbe the Green Center at UT-Dallas, the National Center for Educational Accountability at UT-Austin, and the Texas A&M economics department. Perhaps even TPPF will be one. All of these groups are fairly conservative. If only conservative groups have access to the data, then liberal research that shows the folly of conservative education reform will be next to impossible. The conservatives will have a monopoly on research and pretty soon we will see a bunch of research showing that charter schools and school choice are the way to go.

Watch this one closely--no one else is because they don't understand the ramifications of the bill. On the face of it, it is a good bill, but the choosing of the sites is left to the Commissioner of Education--Robert Scott. Ummm--I mean the cheerleader from Galena Park.

UT_guy makes a very interesting point and one that should be shared with Legislators who will be debating this bill.
