Bombshell!

Senfronia Thompson announces her candidacy for Speaker. We heard this rumor about a week ago and sure enough, the pledge cards are circulating for a vote to vacate the chair for the Special. Rep. Thompson is widely known as the go-to Rep. for rules of the House and her ability to work across the aisle. Oh we just knew the Special was going to be special!

Too bad we didn't get it straight from the horses mouth, we're waiting on a statement now.

LegeBoy at April 10, 2006 6:02 PM

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O I can't wait for her to open that gapping hole in the middle of her face....and put her foot straight in it.

Wonk at April 10, 2006 6:18 PM

Um, yeah. I love Senfronia, but good luck getting any R's to sign her cards - and even all the D's for that matter. The next Speaker is going to have to be a more moderate R, not a super-D.

the wizard at April 10, 2006 6:29 PM

Anyone read her statement?

What cheese dick crap.

Shamu is clearly on drugs if she thinks she has a chance at speaker.

Wonk at April 10, 2006 6:35 PM

Hasn't she pledged to Craddick?

notgannatell at April 10, 2006 6:37 PM

Lrts see how fast Flores, Luna and Edwards sign for Cracker Cradick

Anonymous at April 10, 2006 6:39 PM

wonk, quit being such an ass. really.

either that, or show us your six-pack.

anony at April 10, 2006 7:30 PM

She's rounding up votes for Pitts

Anonymous at April 10, 2006 8:16 PM

Or Wonk, quit being a dumbass. Captain obvious, of course she doesn't stand a chance and she knows that. What she is doing is something most of you republicans know nothing about -- its called standing up for principles.

It is truly a sign of your character that you people continue to support a speaker who has such a disdain for government and the people it works for.

Blue at April 10, 2006 11:12 PM

No Craddick fan here. Between the two, Senfronia hands down. But it won't be between the two. She's out.

sabestian at April 11, 2006 7:58 AM

Anybody know if more than one second is required to consider a motion to vacate the chair?

Bubba Galt at April 11, 2006 9:09 AM

She is just greasing the skids for a moderate R to leap into the Speaker race. She can get all the pledges she can then assure their delivery to that next person. If the moderate R knows only another 20 or so R pledges need to be rounded up, he (or she) would be more likely to jump in.

D in R Clothes at April 11, 2006 9:22 AM

And, by the way, this has nothing to do with principles. This is Senfronia doing her typical grandstanding routine. She's quickly becoming known outside the limited circle of politicos--this can only help. Given that she has limited opportunities to pass important legislation, this is one of the few options left to her. Nothing wrong with that--just don't kid yourselves about her high-mindedness.

Bubba Galt at April 11, 2006 9:22 AM

D in R--

I ask because I'm honestly curious--how can she make that sort of assurance? It seems to me that, sure, the Rs might want a change, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Senfronia's pledges would necessarily want Senfronia's moderate R of choice.

Bubba Galt at April 11, 2006 9:25 AM

Good grief...don't you recognize that Senfronia is YOUR Carole what-ever-her-name-is-this-week?

Anonymous at April 11, 2006 10:09 AM

Known for "her ability to work across the aisle"? She hates, and I mean hates in the literal sense, Republicans. The very last thing she is known for is her ability to work across the aisle.

snrub at April 11, 2006 12:08 PM

Yeah No kidding. How did you come up with that, PD?

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 11, 2006 12:48 PM

Well first, who can get along with assholes like Tom Craddick. But, a misnomer is to think that Senfronia doesn't work with R's. Quit labeling her as someone that's just completely unaware or incapable. You may not like her, you may think she's a loudmouth, but there are some great qualities about her that deserve some respect and courtesy.

So, suck my left nut.

pinkdome at April 11, 2006 2:27 PM

Yowzer!

You are absolutely right PD there are some great qualites about her.

For example if theres just a few pieces of fried shrimp left at the buffet. You can count on a very capable and aware Shamu to finish it off.

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 11, 2006 2:33 PM

Thompson passed hate crimes with Warren Chisum's support (R-Pampa) & 10 other Rs. Her joint author on contraceptive parity in inusrance was Arlene Wohlgemuth (R-Burleson). Her joint author on stem cell research & pay equity was Peggy Hamric (R-Houston). Her joint author on numerous family support bills was Toby Goodman (R-Ft Worth) and the Senate sponsor was Chris Harris (R-Arlington). Her racial profiling ban was passed with the support of former sheriff and prosecutor Terry Keel (R-Austin).

GuantanamoWaitsForYou at April 11, 2006 3:15 PM

Don't think she is unaware or incapable, quite the contrary. Just have seen her up close enough to know that working across the aisle is nto a descriptor that would ever leap to mind.

snrub at April 11, 2006 6:01 PM

Whether she can bring together D's and R's or not, or whether she has a chance in the speaker's race, I don't have a clue. I do know that she could liven up those long boring nights sitting in the House Gallery which, during the Craddick reign, have been a certain kinda Hell I never imagined.

nobody at April 11, 2006 10:28 PM

Who is this Wonk idiot? I mean come on! Cheese dick crap? that sounds like an educated statement. I gaurantee 'Wonk' has a small one and is a card caring member of the KKK. Shamu? You try having three children and we'll see how you look when you are her age!

RichHotStaffer at April 12, 2006 2:49 PM

Better question is who the fuck are you?

Wonk [TypeKey Profile Page] at April 12, 2006 4:00 PM

D'uh...he's a rich hot staffer!
