Patriot Act Shuts Down The Nuns!

The Holy Name Monastery of the Benedictine Sisters in St. Leo, Florida had their bank freeze their account under the rules set forth in the Patriot Act. The Monastery began to wonder why their checks were bouncing (that isn't very Godly, yo) and when the went to the bank they discovered a very incompetent workforce following the very incompetent rules of the Patriot Act.

Here's the best part of this article: "The average consumer "should not be concerned as long as the transactions they're doing are legit," said Anne Marie Kelly, a spokeswoman for the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, the Treasury Department bureau responsible for administering the Bank Secrecy Act."

The average consumer. Ok, then we are all screwed. If NUNS are not above having their accounts frozen the rest of us might as well start stuffing our money in mattresses. And I also love the part where they say, as long as the "transactions they're doing are legit." so, basically, no matter how average you are, you are still under suspicion and are subject to having your account frozen at any time.

Nope. Nothing wrong with that. Carry on, folks. Nothing to see here. All of your liberties and freedoms are completely intact. Please dial in to the government's special phone number with your ID number before 5 p.m. today. That is all. (And then my head exploded) [Thanks QR!]
