Carter Casteel is down by 44 fucking votes. There are 186 mail in ballots outstanding. I cannot believe. Shocked. Sobered me up real quick. Carter, ever the amazing statesman I know she is says, "Either way we win. I get to go to Austin and work on solutions or I get to go back to my family."
If this district sends her back to her family we are amazed and saddened. We are inspired to continue, we are inspired to become the activists we never wanted to be. We are saddened.
When I was 22 (notice I dropped the royal we associated with Pinkdome) I had to stand up before the news cameras and announce George Bush I had lost the state and keep announcing as he lost each additional state. My heart hurt. I gotta tell you that in all the victories, in all the good news and good times I've had tonight, I feel the same way as I did then.
I am so disappointed in Texans. I'm so disappointed in voters. I'm so dissapointed in what I joke about every day being a reality, being that people will do what they did tonight. I try not to get all serious on this blog because I'm not an activist. I try to maintain a healthy disrespect for politics. But to see this result....I have nothing to say other than...really nothing...I'm shocked. I'm speechless. I hate you. I hate with all my heart the people that did not show up and vote for Carter Casteel.

I'da gladly kept the Grooster if it also meant we can keep Casteel. Losing her is the only blemish on an otherwise good night in my book.
But I still think the loss of Gruesendorf will light some fires. Who wants the chairmanship next? The last guy that had it and did what he was told got the shaft. I expect a little more bipartisanship in January from that position unless the person just has a death wish. Like Harper Brown or Berman maybe?
