What's Gonna Be on the Call?

Governor Perry announced that his Special Session in the Spring (love the alliteration) will deal with reducing property taxes and that's it! No school reform because the supreme court didn't say we had to do that...they just said fix property taxes. So there! Nothing else is wrong with schools. Really, the problem is that the legislature can apparently only fix one thing at a time, and that is the lowered expectation we've come to doubt, quite frankly.

Perry doesn't miss an opportunity to talk about property tax relief without slamming Carole Keeton Strayhorn either.
"And we don't need to raise taxes one cent to generate more money for education, we just need the comptroller to collect the nearly $3 billion owed to her office today by deadbeats and tax cheats," Perry added.

Oh yeah? Well maybe we don't need Perry to call session after session that never gets anything accomplished either.

PinkDome is starting a contest for 'Guess the Call Date' on the Special. We're gonna take April 11, but we've heard as late as May 1. You pick your dates. Closest to the actual date gets a free PinkDome "Adios, Mofo" t-shirt!

(Governor Perry and his staff are not eligible for this contest, nor are employees of Dr. Leininger or one of Craddick's cronies.)

That's bullshit.

The 2nd called session was supposed to deal with, what, school finance reform?

March 28. He's gonna at least want to look diligent and ready to get to work right after the primary.

April 11 is primary runoff election day, PD.

Lefty at February 8, 2006 4:19 PM

oops. I didn't think about a runoff. Can I change my mind?

Too bad April 1 is a Saturday, it would be so appropriate....I say April 17 - it leaves just enough time for a wham bam.

I'll take April 19 (I've heard from everyone that it'll be the 17, and this is the closest slot left).

April 3rd. I'm betting on my mom's birthday because that's all part of my system.

I'm going with April Fool's Day, 4.1.06, because nothing would fit our fractured sschool system better than calling an irrelevant tax-based special on a day with "fool" in the title. Go for it, Mofo!
