East Texas Candidate is a Fruit Loop!

whatthehellisthat.jpg
Roger Owen, a Democrat running for Congress in CD 1, is a more embarrassing a candidate than a former male prostitute. First, have you seen his web site? My eyes! My eyes! Then, it looks like he was banned from MyDD's comments and diaries for something or other.

But then comes my favorite part. His quote before being invited to speak to the Stonewall Democrats in East Texas.

"This is East Texas. (Franklin is) hurting the party," Owen said. "I feel for the gays, but this is East Texas. It's not New York. It's not Fort Lauderdale."

Owen also said in an interview that it's not his job to psycho-analyze them, adding that whoever wins the state District 7 Republican nomination between Tommy Merritt and Mark Williams is "going to spank (Franklin) dearly with that issue" (of gay rights) during the November general election.

And it's pig fuckers like you Roger that continue the tradition of anti-gay sentiment in this country. What we need, especially in East Texas, is someone not afraid to stand up and say to bash on fellow Americans to get votes from bigots is wrong and one you totally oppose.

Come back to the table when you get some balls and for God's sake take that stupid web site down...you're the embarrassment to the party.

Maybe his 13 year old daughter made the website? It is missing a few LOLs and OMGs, though.

He's really pushing the fact that he's a swimming pool builder. Or as he puts it, "Swimming Pool Builder."

Fine Bottled Water at February 21, 2006 10:27 AM

My God, we've gone from Max Sandlin, who sat on Ways and Means, to Roger "I pose in front of painted horses" Owens. Please, please, please Supreme Court change the districts back so we have a fighing chance here in East Texas.

Cody at February 21, 2006 10:38 AM

What's with the swimming pool pictures?

He'd better hope nobody makes improper use of apostrophes a campaign issue or he's in big trouble. Don't they teach that in 3rd grade or so?

John at February 21, 2006 11:17 AM

Seriously, what's with the drawings?!?! and the "Please Allow 1 Minute To Download." I don't get it....

Eddie R. at February 21, 2006 11:40 AM

Eddie - for people loading the page on a 56k connection. Lot's of AOL dialup users in East Texas still.

original TREY at February 21, 2006 11:44 AM

Given the anti-gay hatred that spews forth from pinkdome on a regular basis, it's awfully hypocritcal for y'all be chastising anyone. Pinkdome are bunch of hate mongering bigots.

Vicki Black at February 21, 2006 12:16 PM

Roger may be correct. This is East Texas and Franklin's district voted overwhelmingly for last years marriage ammendment. The turnout in the Tyler Area will have an heavy impact on statewide candidates and an overwhelming impact on Owen and Shaw's attempt to unseat Louis Gohmert.. Patrick Franklin has no real chance to gain a seat in heavily homophobic East Texas and his presence will harm every other Democrat on the ballot because Patrick is making his sexual orientation the issue and that will drive the wingnuts to the balot.

Tomtech at February 21, 2006 1:09 PM

Vicki Black, you are an idiot and ill-informed cunt.

Anonymous at February 21, 2006 1:28 PM

Vicki, are you serious? Or being facetious? Cuz I can't tell.

bluebonnet at February 21, 2006 1:29 PM

That picture just screams gay.

and vickie you have a stinky nu nu.

Wonk at February 21, 2006 2:17 PM

Ah my my - Pinkdome has an amazing ability to attract all the professional haters - you see, water seeks its own level. it's only on pinkdome that one can actually be called the "c" word. And of course it's been posted anonymously becuase haters always do.

And only two or three days ago, the authors of pinkdome let the world know just how much they hated ("I hate, hate, hate them") democrats in San Antonio and Dallas.

Pinkdome is all about hate, pomposity and bigotry masquerading as a progressive blog.

And yes, bluebonnet, pinkdome is homophobic. How many times does pinkdome have to spew out their vicious attacks against every Stonewall Democratic club in the state before you wake up and get it?

Vicki Black at February 21, 2006 2:18 PM

Shut up, Cunt.

:-)

Wonk at February 21, 2006 2:28 PM

Pinkdome homophobic. Weird, so all that coming out of the closet was for nothing? All those gay prides I volunteer for was for nothing? All that advocating opposition to HJR6 was for nothing?

See, Vicki, you've entered a world where if I oppose something that some other gay does I'm homophobic. Not true. Asking me to be lock-step with you is the true bigotry.

As far as the cunt remark, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's probably a cunt as far as I can tell.

PinkDome at February 21, 2006 2:32 PM

...so, criticizing the Stonewall Democrats makes you homophobic? This Vicki chick is a hoot. And a loon...
Now, as far as Roger is concerned, anyone wanting to pose in front of a statue of a horse THAT gay, and promises to "spank" his opponent "dearly" gets my vote for The Last One to Know concerning his own proclivities.

jimmycity at February 21, 2006 2:34 PM

jimmycity - AMEN.

bluebonnet at February 21, 2006 2:35 PM

As I've said elsewhere pinkdome, you're a parasitic poseur.

And wonk - back at'cha' chickenshit!

Vicki Black at February 21, 2006 2:45 PM

Vicki: water seeks its own level

Vicki: back at'cha' chickenshit!

welcome to the mudhouse, sweet cheeks.

the wizard at February 21, 2006 2:53 PM

Damn. PD, did you notice the amateur editing job on the horse cock? Your eyes were probably blurry, tearing, and half shut, but if you wait for it to clear, you can see that he taped something over the big horse cock before scanning the picture.

Heh. Big. Horse. Cock.

Anyway. Where was I? Oh - yeah. He's also A Proud Southern Democrat.

And I thought all the Dixiecrats were dead, or Republicans. Someone let him know the 50s are so over, and give him Trent Lott's number.

j at February 21, 2006 2:59 PM

Holy shit, j, nice find! How did I miss that?

This guy's platform:
Pro Swimming Pools,
Anti Big Horse Cock's
[Excessive Caps and apostrophe usage in homage to Rog "the Dodge" Owen].

Fine Bottled Water at February 21, 2006 4:04 PM

What abusive language here. Do you really think anyone is going to take you seriously with such foul language? Respectable and serious politial advocates will move on ...and fast!

Ya'll need to get some phycotherapy to deal with your anger. Further, ya'll need to listen to what others are saying to you and act on it! You don't see yourself accurately.

Good grief.

A Lady at February 21, 2006 5:02 PM

Worst website, ever. I'm moving to his would-be district to vote against him.

LegeBoy at February 21, 2006 5:38 PM

Fine Bottled Water at February 21, 2006 6:16 PM

Fine Bottled Water, our PhD in communications folks. Give him a hand!

Pinkdome at February 21, 2006 6:20 PM

Is that fine lady still here? I want to learn more about "phycotherapy." Also, I needed someone to cook me a meatloaf.

the wizard at February 21, 2006 6:32 PM

^LMAO!

Wonk at February 21, 2006 7:34 PM

I take a nap and all kinds of hell break loose. PD, dropping c-bombs like it was the 4th of July and someone calling him homophobic?

I'm pretty sure serious political advocates aren't going anywhere; not if they want to know what the hell is going on anyway. Traffic speaks for itself.

Nate at February 21, 2006 8:02 PM

For the record, I live in TX-01.
I know both Roger Owen and Patrick Franklin and I know the situation well.

Roger is not a good candidate, to say the least. He has a primary opponent in Duane Shaw from Lufkin. Shaw is by far the better candidate. Roger's speeches are quite unfocused, and he has a reputation as a loose cannon.

Roger had already criticized Patrick privately (to his face) about his decision to run because he was gay. Roger's actions had already drawn the ire of local Democrats. Then, as shown here, he told the Longview News-Journal the same thing, which took that ire to a new level.

Patrick is a good candidate, certainly a far better candidate than Roger.

Patrick has an uphill battle because this is a very conservative, Republican district.

But at least he's running. The incumbent, Tommy Merritt, has not even faced a Democratic opponent in his previous 4 elections.

So even if Roger was right, AND HE'S NOT, it would still beat no candidate.

Vik Verma at February 21, 2006 11:14 PM

Walter Ludwig had a presentation at DemFest last year about "Project 90" (don't look for it. Like the Electric Banana, it's not there anymore). The premise was 90% of life is just showing up, and that no congressional district should go unchallenged. (Like 10 was last time around).

I don't know where I was going with that. Oh. I can't believe Merritt hasn't had a Democratic opponent 8 years. That's bullshit. Where is the Texas Democratic Party? They should be recruiting!

j at February 22, 2006 9:35 PM

They should be recruiting, but they are not, which is unfortunate.

Kudos to Patrick -- this is a very tough race, and he's taken it head on.
