Dallas Gay Democrats: Bitter Queens

*UPDATE* Admittedly, we had fun with the Tom Malin story last week. Come on, it was too easy. But, the story that we'd like the DMN to really explore is the bitter queens that are the in Dallas that leaked this story. Turns out it was one of them that 'found out' about Tom's past as a prostitute. Instead of calling Mr. Malin and suggesting he make a statement, clear the air and work to avoid an embarassing moment for democrats and gay candidates they called the DMN like giddy schoolgirls with a juicy bit of gossip that was just too good not to share.

When we can get some people with some sort of life and the ability to hold down a real job back running the Democrat party in Texas these petty arguments will explode all over the front pages of the media. Shame on you, stonewall dems, shame on you. While it may not have been an 'official' with the stonewall dems...the question still begs..who knew what, when?

Kudos to Tom for deciding to own up to it, that's a pretty brave face to put on in spite of all of this. Let's hope the DMN will be brave enough to remember why they endorsed him in the first place.

So, have you guys figured out that Soechting is a problem? If you have already proclaimed that, and I missed it, my apologies. Who is our next leader? If you think Maxey, I'd say you're on to something.

The Other Guy at February 20, 2006 9:53 AM

Maxey? Uhm, no.

Anonymous at February 20, 2006 10:10 AM

What the hell does Soechting have to do with this?

original TREY at February 20, 2006 12:56 PM

I'm just sorry this whole mess probably means we won't have a bona fide reformed prostitute in the lege any time soon. I was hoping he might set an example that some of the rest of that crowd could follow.

Dave In A Cave at February 20, 2006 1:04 PM

The Stonewall Democrats did NOT leak this news to the Dallas Morning News. While the DMN claims that a "gay Democrat" gave them the information, they say nothing to indicate that it was a member of Stonewall.

The leaders of Stonewall did not have this information. If they had, Malin would have been dealt with quietly and internally, and not outed in such a way that would embarass the entire party.

Unless you have some sort of evidence that the leaders of the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas leaked this information, you are doing nothing more than libelling some of the most loyal Democrats in the state.

DallasDem at February 20, 2006 1:23 PM

Mike - no thanks! Those nutters believe showers are just government oppression.

original TREY at February 20, 2006 2:02 PM

The leaders of Stonewall had been spreading the story for days. Sure they had the information. Too bad the source was too chicken shit to be named.

Pleeeze! at February 20, 2006 2:11 PM

Lots of us knew about it, beginning immediately after Tom/Todd Malin/Sharpe filed. The leaders of Stonewall (including some who had encouraged him to file in the first place)knew enough about it to ask him privately (and for him to lie, denying the rumors). Unfortunately, they apparently didn't bring this up at the endorsement interview itself, which they should have, resulting in the endorsement (at Stonewall, endorsements are voted on by all those attending, not just officers, unlike some other groups one could think of).
So, Tom/Todd was faced privately with the information and refused to back down. What were we supposed to do, wait for the Republicans to drag it out in October and let them destroy the whole ticket (and yes, they knew about it already, too, and were not-so-privately chortling amongst themselves).

donkeynotanass at February 20, 2006 3:17 PM

What does Soechting have to do with it? If there is a dirty rumor, true or falsce, Soechting can't stand but to repeat it. Such behaviour can be useful, but it's not leadership.

The Other Guy at February 20, 2006 3:48 PM

The Other Guy - The last person I heard whining about something Charles 'supposedly' did was Chris Bell, though that was from a third party. I've known Soechting for a while and he's never, not in a single conversation, bad mouthed another Democrat or 'spread rumors'.

Any discussion of whores by Michael Moon is a joke if he doesn't talk about himself a little.

While I can not imagine that Mr. Moon has ever taken money for sex, or that anyone on any drug would pay him for it, he is a political whore of the first caliber.

On more than one occassion, I have been lied to directly by Michael Moon about political and personal matters. The man is about as trustworthy as a West Texas weather forecast.

I, for one, would not believe one word Mr. Moon claims about this story. I don't know the truth of how the whole prostitute-candidate story got into the media, but Michael Moon will lie about anything and betray anyone to make himself look good.

FullMoon at February 21, 2006 11:47 AM

My My Fullmoon - and who's the bitter one?

Vicki Black at February 21, 2006 12:12 PM

That really hurts Tom that you think I'm political whore.. I am really hurt. And I lied to you about what??? Come on Tom, fess up.

You did this to yourself and you let down a lot of supporters, including me.

And I have no idea what the angry fingerpointing is about PinkDome, but my challenge still stands... come on up and help two real democrats get elected - Andy Smith and Katy Hubener.

Action? or just Talk?

Michael Moon at February 21, 2006 2:30 PM

Here's my question... how'd y'all let Branch get elected in the first place?

original TREY at February 21, 2006 2:53 PM

Someone needs to get laid.

PinkDome at February 21, 2006 2:53 PM

This comment thread is a perfect example of the dysfunction in Dallas. Instead of working to get candidates elected they all have their panties in a twist over something stupid. Maybe that's why the Donna Howard team in Austin is having to hightail it up to Dallas, because the Dallas Dems can't get anybody elected.

BURN.

Anonymous at February 21, 2006 3:09 PM

Dysfunction in Dallas? It's the only county in Texas where Democrats are actually turning the Republican tide!

If what's going on in Dallas is dysfunctional, then Texas Democrats need more of it.

Vicki Black at February 21, 2006 4:18 PM

Hi!

Fine Bottled Water at February 21, 2006 5:15 PM

Uhm, Vicki, no offense but Travis and Hays are a lot further ahead. For the love of mike, y'all couldn't even vote down prop 2 in Dallas County. Even rural Hays did better than y'all.

original TREY at February 21, 2006 8:54 PM

Hey Now Dallas !!Harris Co is doing its part. Back off with your attitude
