He's a long, tall Texan . . . or so the ad says.

We caught our first peek at Ben Bentzin's ad campaign tonight during a rerun of "60 Minutes". One of our first views of Bentzin in the ad is in front of a safe baby sign. And the meaning of this is . . . he likes safe babies?

We later see him with his family playing a board game - "Monopoly", perhaps? The lamest moment of the ad is when the narrator says he's 6'6" and Bentzin bends down with a hand to his ear to show he still hears the little people. Ugh.

His tagline: Big on Austin. Our ad rating: D. We've seen a couple worse introductory ads, but we've seen much better.

We have higher hopes for Andy Brown's campaign (please don't disappoint us, guys!).

You are right that Bentzin's ad is lame, ineffective and self-focused. Big surprise there.

But why are you waiting for Andy? He's not in this race.

How about a review of Donna Howard's spot. I mean, since she's the only other candidate who has one and is actually on the ballot.

Bentzin's ad is certainly not "lame" by the standard of most political ads. Most people in the district will respond positively to it.

Most people in the district are against taking tax dollars out of public schools to pay for Bentzin and his cronies to send their kids to private schools. Most people in the district think Tom Craddick is an obnoxious obstructionist, so most people in the district are uncomfortable with Bentzin's admission that he will follow Craddick's agenda faithfully. Most people in the district are in the middle of the political spectrum. Bentzin is at the far extreme. Most people in the district are fed up with folks like him.

True, glenda, but watchdog's comment was about the ad. Which, by the way, is lame.

Err, who the hell is watchdog? Newswatching. It's all the same.

Where's Wonk when you need a tactless comment?

newswatching: you don't live in the district, do you? People are pissed as hell at Baxter and Bentzin has even less of a chance. If by some miracle he's elected in the special, he'll lose in November. People AREN'T responding positively to the ad. IT BLOWS.

He's a moron for running right now. This is the same guy who couldn't beat Barrientos in 2002. The only thing he's big on is being a tool.

My life's been pretty dull recently. Shrug. My mind is like a void. I haven't gotten anything done lately. I can't be bothered with anything recently.

Sten33142 at January 6, 2007 8:58 AM

I can't be bothered with anything these days, but shrug. I just don't have anything to say recently. I haven't gotten much done recently. Nothing seems worth thinking about.

Sten85318 at January 13, 2007 8:21 AM

My life's been basically bland today. More or less nothing seems worth thinking about. My mind is like an empty room. I've more or less been doing nothing to speak of. Not much on my mind recently.

Sten28915 at January 18, 2007 6:23 PM

Not much on my mind. I don't care. I've just been letting everything happen without me , but shrug. Whatever. I feel like a void.

retty much nothing seems worth thinking about. My life's been completely dull , not that it matters. I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen.
