Election For Allen's Spot on Feb. 28

Per QR, Perry has called a special election to fill Rep. Ray Allen's seat for February 28. Candidates need to file by January 30th. Katy Hubener has been gearing up for the November election, so she'll get an earlier fight. She pulled 47.4% against a fairly powerful incumbent, in a district that voted 40% for Kerry. BOR said that one Republican, Kirk England, should be running in the special election, provided that no candidate swings in from out of the blue. So with one unknown R, and one Dem with name recognition and experience running in the district, things may be looking better for Dems in 2006.

To quote from Perry:
"The election was declared an emergency because a special legislative session on school finance must occur"

Umm, so it wasn't an emergency to fill Joe Moreno's seat before 2 special sessions on school finance? Quick specials were called in the seats of 2 Republicans, but that solidly Dem seat sat empty. And now that Howard has shown Bentzin what she can do, when is Perry gonna get around to calling for the runoff election in HD 48? Guess it's best for him if he gives Bentzin all the time he can to think of more ways to win, like comparing himself to Vince Young.

a runoff relection can't be called until the canvass is ccomplete. the locals haven't done their canvass yet, and until that time, the state can't do its canvass. but, of course that little fact doesn't fit your world view, so the hell with it.....

How DOES THIS FIT IN YOUR WORLD VIEW?

You guys know I rarely raise my voice, but if you're going to be a dickhead about our posts, at least be reality based in some sense of the word.

you're the one who complaiined that the runoff for hd 48 hadn't be declared. i simply pointed out that it can be until the canvass is complete. i'd like to think you'd care about the facts/law, but that may be too much to ask for.

Young lawyer: you're acting EXACTLY like one. Read for perspective, darlin', before you go shooting your unseasoned mouth off.

No need to bash young lawyer. Maybe (s)he's a bit petulant (and who here isn't?), but there's nothing "unseasoned" about stating the fact that A must happen before B can. Let's not obfuscate.

Bentzin comparing himself to Vince Young is quite amusing. What a dumb ass.

The Rs have given up on salvaging Bentzin. Perry will call the runoff for February 14. This means that they have abandoned their efforts to give Bentzin as much time as possible to spend as much of his money as possible and close the gap as much as possible. Even they admit now, by deciding on a quick runoff, that it is impossible.

Not. true.

We didn't think so, because we kind of thought we'd heard something about him being neutered.
