Ben Bentzin, Douchebag

Ben Bentzin's fundraising letter for HD 48 includes this line: "Rest assured, it is my ability to work across the aisle in a principled way that has truly partisan Democrats quaking in their Birkenstocks."

Just so you know, fuckstick, I'm wearing Gucci loafers right now that could probaby fit squarely in your ass.

Douchebag already and we haven't even started.

I've also seen candidate Andy Brown around town working hard for support by blockwalking and fundraising. I've never seen him in Birkenstocks, either. I can't get past anything but a fuck you, Ben Bentzin. Sorry I can't be more creative. I've put a link here so you can go directly to Andy's donate page and give to his campaign. Show Ben that you aren't spending all your money on Birkenstocks.

So much for 'Dell' expertise

PinkDome at December 2, 2005 2:15 PM

I ain't ashamed of my Birkenstocks. Bentzin sux!

bluebonnet at December 2, 2005 2:17 PM

i agree with your sentiment about bentzin but not with your support of andy brown. the best candidate in this race is donna howard. she has the best chance of beating bentzin and his fat wallet. and as bentzin has already proven with this birkenstocks line, he is so far to the right of the aisle that he can't even see it.

All that money and no taste, no sense, no how.

texxasredd at December 2, 2005 4:24 PM

laney's out. that sucks.

All the more reason to send a qualified expert on publi education to a special session on public education. Sorry, folks. That leaves out Ben Betzin and Andy Brown. So take your choice between Donna Hoard and Kathy Rider. Me, I'll take Donna because I have not forgotten what a divisive bitch Kathy was on the Austin school board.

d at December 2, 2005 5:41 PM

i see that she's "recognized as an expert in public education" but being a school board member doesn't necessarily give you a leg up on how to fix school finance. All it means is that you have a dog in the fight. Good? Bad? Ugly?

drinks_at_the_stephen_f at December 2, 2005 6:07 PM

fza amaybe i aint the sharpest knife in my drawers (is that spelled right?) but what are birkenstocks. Just currious, bossman out.

Bossman at December 3, 2005 12:30 AM

Donna Howard is "an expert in public education" because she has been involved in the community's schools for three decades, attended them herself, sent her children to them, and learned how to create and implement school finance budgets while on the school board. Exactly the kind of commitment and experience we need heading into a special session on school finance.

bentzin supports vouchers, takes money from voucher-king james leininger, and sends his own children to private schools. he will be a reliable vote for craddick's anti-schools agenda. andy brown is a child himself, without the life experience or credibility to be taken seriously during the special session. and as d notes above, kathy rider is well... kathy rider. been there, seen that show, not interested in a re-run.

seth at December 3, 2005 10:23 AM

What on Earth is wrong with wearing Birks? I will have to buy a new pair after I get done block-walking my butt off for the Howard campaign. She is the only candidate that can seriously challenge the Bentzin money.

I can't believe how crappy Ben's website is! For a guy whose job was "marketing, product development, e-commerce"...this is the best he can do? If he runs his campaign like he runs his website, Dems don't have so much to worry about.

sheila at December 4, 2005 7:30 AM

I'll tell you what, I am impresssed with both Ben Bentzin and Donna Howard...both have a wealth of experience to bring to the table. Sure, Ben may be a little more conservative, but I like his business-savvy approach and intuition. ben may make candid remarks about the D party, but he is only doing what the Ds to do the Rs all of the time. Donna appears to be knowledgeable about education, and if I had to support a Democrat, it would be Donna. I'm going to vote for Ben, but Donna does propose a threat.

Anonymous at December 8, 2005 12:19 PM

Those who may remember Kathy as being devisive on an out of control AISD board (yes I remember that era well) may have missed Donna's tenure at Eanes that forced an uprising of the voters to boot Donna, her Republican friend Jerry Hughes, and Jeanetta Sanders off of the Eanes school board because of their poor decision making. Donna is well spoken and sounds reasonable and appealing. But you need to look at her decision making--I can't support her for any office even though I do think she's a nice person. I think Kathy provided decisive and effective leadership on the AISD school board and between the two of them, it's no contest. I'm still trying to find out more about Bentzin before making up my mind. To true Democrats, though, I give this word of caution--Donna's shortcomings became readily apparent in three years on a local school board--her defeats for state board of education were not solely because a lot of this district trends Republican. Rider would make a far better office holder and party representative.
