AG Abbott Kills Good Deals on Drugs

Attorney General Greg Abbott has barred the legislation by Rep. Hochberg from being enacted. The provision permitted Texans to obtain prescription drugs from Canada at up to 75% less than the cost of those very same drugs in the U.S. (wow, that was an akward sentence...did you follow me?)

AG Abbot says it violates federal statutes, but nine other states permit residents to obtain prescription drugs from Canada. The assertion that the quality of the drug is somehow not the same because it's Canadian is obscene. There is a desperate need for relief on rising health care and prescription drug costs and this decision is an example of how the politicans really don't give a shit.

Canada is Obscene! Group sex anyone?

The Wonk at December 22, 2005 11:58 AM

There is a good book out called "Generation RX". I think its the same guy that wrote Fast Food Nation. He talks in the book about how drug companies do indeed spend more on advertising than research, create maladies to drive drug sales (i.e. "acid reflux' et al) and a whole bunch of other bad stuff.

I try never to take RX drugs - even though my doc tried to put me on Lipitor and a whole bunch of other crap. If one eats well and exercises, and doesn't smoke or drink to excess (PD), the need for all these drugs everyone takes would be cut in half.

gayinmidland at December 22, 2005 1:00 PM

grapefruit is a miracle drug.

pixievixen at December 22, 2005 1:18 PM

texas citrus? that shit will set you free.

PD, I'm right there with you. The worst part is that the drug companies fool Americans but can't run the same scam in Mexico or the U.S. Because we're fat, rich and stupid.

on Rx medications in general, though, i must say this one thing: The More Vicodin, The Better.

Bring on the painkillers!

p.s. and what is so obscene about group sex, exactly? ok don't answer that. or, not exactly.

drinks_at_the_stephen_f at December 22, 2005 1:41 PM

scuze i meant "Mexico or Canada."

drinks_at_the_stephen_f at December 22, 2005 1:45 PM

That is crazy, so what it is illegal lets do it. We give all kind of benifits to people who are in the country illegally. What we really should do is provide investment stategies to drug dealers, who cares that they earned the money illegally. That money would boost the economy. ENFORCE LAWS THAT ARE ON THE BOOKS, IF YOU DO NOT AGREE CHANGE THEM DO NOT BREAK THEM

lawbreaker at December 22, 2005 2:34 PM

We subsidize drug prices for every other coutnyr in the world. I'm not criticize Abbott for backing up the law. Unfortunately, our US reps have every right to pass dumbass laws and regs.

I believe it was the Governor of Minnesota who said "Show me the dead Canadians."

snrub at December 22, 2005 2:45 PM

Next you'll be asking your friend for his connection to get a lid of Wellbutrin instead of pot. Drug dealers, this is a huge chance for you to rake in the profits.
