When You Give a Mouse a Cookie...

So Chisum got his wish on Tuesday with Prop 2's passing. What's on his agenda now? According to the DMN, he and other conservatives are shopping ways to lower the divorce rates, by limiting no-fault divorces and finding other ways to strengthen marriage. HA! Bet some people are wishing they could take their votes back, turns out yall were just encouraging them with that enabling behavior.

This oughtta be fun to watch in the Lege - how do you twist arms with all the divorcees & adulterists in that august body? Wait...is that why a legislator is calling it quits? OK stop, I'm kidding, I'm kidding...

We all made jokes about how if they really wanted to protect marriage they should look into divorce and not gay marriage. I don't think ever thought they'd really go there next. They really are living in 1850.

"Gee whiz, our divorce rate's higher than New York," Mr. Chisum said. He proposed that between now and their next regular session in 2007, lawmakers study ways "to make marriage thrive more in our state."

Gee Fuckin' Whiz, indeed, representative. Can you think of a few reasons why divorce might be more common in Red Values Texas than in Blue Values New York? Maybe the socio economic backgrounds of those getting divorces?

What's next? Bans on contraception? Arranged marriages? I wish we'd have moved to that den of iniquity called the North East instead of this den of inbred conservative cretinism.

Trouble is, the weather's warmer down here. Because it's closer to hell, maybe?

I like it! Our new state slogan: "Texas, the Den of Inbred Conservative Cretinism"

Actually, "Texas. Closer to Hell Than You Think" is good too.

It just occurred to me that perhaps one reason the divorce rate is higher in God's Country than Satan Land, is that there are more folks living in sin in NY.

So let's call a special session to introduce legislation that doesn't allow *any* marriage in Texas.

The divorce rate would drop to *zero*!!

Brrrillliant! It would be funny if we could get a constituent of Chisum's to write to him suggesting that.

Volunteers?

Next up: Rounding uppity women up in concentration camps lest they be a bad influence on children . . .

The only way out will be submitting to marriage to a high school football player and breeding future running backs . . .
