We posted last week on an audit that says that the new Health & Human Services Commission will only save Texans $1.1 million, as opposed to the $45 million dollars it was originally estimated to save. Turns out the commission doesn't agree with the state auditors, so they had the number removed from the final report. Say what? You can do that? How did that conversation go? "Hey, that number makes us look bad & we don't like it, so don't publish it."
Because the commission disagreed with the auditors' preliminary analysis that only $1.1 million would be saved, the figure was dropped from the auditors' final report, released Tuesday.
Know what's even better? The commission then makes up their own number...yes the same people who were off by $43.9 million the first time around then made up their next number & had it included in the report.
The only cost-saving figure in the report was another estimate from the commission itself, which revised potential savings to $32.7 million over five years.
Seriously, whatever happened to an independent audit? Someone over at HHSC has the state auditor by the balls, cuz they just painted this report to make them look pretty. They wiped out 12 different agencies, gave all the power to the commissioner & the governor, privatized a lot of aspects of HHSC, & then made up their own numbers for the fictional savings to the state. Bravo, just when we thought it couldnt get any better, they do this.
Man, I need their accountant. I could use an extra $30M in savings.
