Thanks to feministing.com, we read that last night the Senate unanimously reathorized the Violence Against Women Act. It's about damn time.
From the statement made by the National Network to End Domestic Violence:
Now that VAWA has passed in the House and Senate, the two chambers will meet to work out differences in their respective pieces of legislation. Most notably, the House version only contains criminal and civil justice provisions, while the Senate bill contains more comprehensive provisions addressing prevention, crisis and advocacy services, and housing protections. Rosenthal says she is confident that the bill's conferees will work towards a final version of VAWA that contains comprehensive programs to meet the needs of survivors.
hooray!
