Our pal Rove

This NYTimes article makes a frightening statement about what lies ahead for New Orleans:

Republicans said Karl Rove, the White House deputy chief of staff and Mr. Bush's chief political adviser, was in charge of the reconstruction effort, which reaches across many agencies of government and includes the direct involvement of Alphonso R. Jackson, secretary of housing and urban development.
I don't know about you, but I'm skipping Bush's speech tonight. I get too angry at my television when he's on it. I prefer to keep my pleasant relationship with my TV. Y'all watch and let me know how it goes.

I hear you. I unfortunately have to watch because of the friends and family impacted by whatever the administration plans to do, or not do. My TV will make it through the night, though, because on a brighter note ... Marcia Ball, the Neville Brothers, and the Meters will be on Letterman tonight to remind us of at least part of why NOLA should be preserved.

Couldn't watch - I tried for about two minutes. Basically when he walked out, the naseau began. Had to save my dinner and change the station. I've been watching excerpts this am and haven't heard any great revelations.

You know I'm not a fan. But I have to say I thought it was the best speech he's ever given in his entire career. Forceful, surprisingly articulate, and he never once said "folks." (Really. If he had said "rescue folks" or "Louisiana folks," I would have screamed.)

From here, we'll all be watching for specifics. If some of the speculation is correct that we're talking about private ownership of otherwise public buildings like schools, elimination of capital gains taxes as part of the plan for economic development, waiver of environmental rules, or basically anything engineered by the Heritage Foundation, uh oh spaghetti-o's.
