Best Use of the Capitol Building

Since nothing else good is coming out of the pink dome, we think this is the best idea yet.

Q: I am planning a wedding in 2006. My fiance and I would love to get married at the Capitol.

Is this possible? If so, who do we need to contact to make arrangements?

Answer after the jump.

A: Yes, it is possible, but no one will be making arrangements for you.

"Weddings are not prohibited in the Capitol or on the grounds," says Julie Fields, spokeswoman for the State Preservation Board, caretakers of the Capitol. You and guests can show up when the Capitol is open to the public, but nothing for your wedding can be scheduled or facilitated — no chairs, no canopy, no cordoning off an area, no staging whatsoever. Still interested? To avoid being crowded out by scheduled events such as school choir performances, the Texas Book Festival, etc., check capitol.state.tx.us for a list of planned activities on the grounds and under the dome.

Ask Mary Denny about booking our Capitol for a wedding. I believe the Speaker's apartment may also be available for the wedding night.

Only wedding pictures can be taken at the capitol.
