What's this?

What do we have here? Seems like Grusendorf filed HB 71 today. The tagline? Relating to public education and public school finance matters. Are they really trying again? What are they thinking? The text ain't up yet, but if someone knows what's going on, let us know.

Yep. When I was listening this morning to the floor doldrums, Craddick read a proclamation expanding the charge of the Pub Ed Committee to include tax matters. So, either:
(1) as suggested in a post over at In the Pink Texas, it's a feeble attempt by Craddick to get ahead or at least not sink further in the PR wars by trying to do SOMETHING, even if not ultimately passed by the House, or
(2) he has the votes to pass something (like they did in the Regular) he knows is not acceptable to the Senate, and pass it out so late [since they have adjourned until Tuesday] that it is a take it or leave it deal for the Senate. So then Craddick and the House wins. He either gets the tax bill HE wants, or nothing, which he also thinks is fine. "We sent them what they asked for -- a tax bill -- and they killed it. [Back of hand to head] I just don't know what else we could have done"

The last is so wonderfully tacky I almost hope that's it. Except I would hate to see Craddick win anything, even only a pyrrhic victory.

That the Senate didn't kill it is ridiculous, and that people in the House are thinking about taking it up is even more ludicrous. The House Dems and rural R's better sit on this bill, squash it, kill it, bury it. Craddick wants to wait until after the courts. The leadership can't lead...why does anyone think the leadership should get bailed out? Let. It. Die.
