The levels of idiocy are absolutely astounding to me

The good ol' Texas Legislative Council has the analyses of the proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments we mentioned earlier available for download as MS Word or WordPerfect (Who uses WordPerfect anymore?). Reading along, here is the official TLC arguments FOR Proposition 2. (*UPDATE* These are not the opinions of the TLC, merely the arguments presented by the proponents of Prop. 2 in the Lege. The TLC, I'm guessing, couldn't give three shits about this and probably found it hard to put this analysis together with a straight face.) Get ready!

The union of a man and a woman in the long-standing institution of traditional marriage promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society. PD Says, "Allowing gays to marry and raise children would cause the stock market to crash, oil prices to rise and rampant shoplifting at Wal-Mart. This instability would crush Texas' economy and de-stabilize the State. The resulting Martial Law imposed by the President would incite riots from Midland to Tyler."

The state should ensure that the institution of traditional marriage cannot be undermined by a future court decision or statute of the Texas Legislature. PD Says, "The courts should stick to legislating school finance reform and stay out of constitutionally supported social disenfranchisement of citizens."

The amendment would not discriminate against any person.
PD Says, "Except faggots."

Approval of the amendment by the voters would not prevent same-sex couples from pursuing their lifestyles, but would only ensure that the union of same-sex couples is not sanctioned by the state.
PD Says, "It would also not prevent swingers, adulterers, child-beaters, drug users, pedophiles, and Republicans from pursuing their lifestyle...but it really doesn't do anything to ensure the sanctity of anything in Texas."

You can download the analyses of all 8 proposed amendments on the TLC Site here.

PLEASE print stickers for this campaign. Nebraska had great ones a few years ago - "Our marriage doesn't need defending. Sorry about yours."

Yes. T-shirts too. You could sell them in the "store."

I'm very disappointed that PinkDome has evidently misunderstood the role of TLC as is displayed in its comments on Prop 2. The referenced TLC publication presents the arguments brought up in the hearings and debate on the joint resolution and do not represent an opinion by TLC.

We didn't mean to insinuate it was the TLC. We know it was the retarded elected officials that made those FOR arguments.

The folks over at TLC work thankless jobs and ungodly hours all to make the people in the dome look good. Before you slam them like that, take a little time to understand their role and the purpose of their publications. The Analysis of Constitutional Amendments just presents the generally understood pros and cons to particular ballot propositions. That's all. The TLC staff doesn't propose or support specific positions on issues and they don't deserve to be held out for the bigotry in the lege.

So touchy! Come on folks, by now you know our bitchiness is reserved for the elected officials and high-ranking staff. It's so rare we'd attack thankless staffers. We send them cookies for Chrissakes.
