Next Weeks' Timetable

Lawmakers have until next Monday, August 15 to cancel their registration for NCSL in order to get a full refund. The Senate is adjourned until Monday. The House is adjourned until Tuesday. Stuff gets kickin' in Seattle on Tuesday night, but nothing really fun happens until Wednesday. The House is allowed to adjourn sine die on its own 3 days before the last day, which I've heard can be done on Tuesday. Talking about NCSL, Craddick said "I'm on the list, but I'm not going to go, if we're in session." So basically, we watch the Senate blunder around on Monday, let the school & tax bills die on Tuesday, sine die, then haul ass out of town for some Pacific Northwest cocktail receptions. Do I have it right?

You got it right.

To quote Bugs Bunny: "What a bunch of maroons!"

I'm so sick of these politicians. I hope they all go to Seattle and NEVER come back!

That's one possible case scenario. The other is that Dewhurst again says something about Craddick being obstructionist, so Craddick pretends to work all the way through Friday.

And on the menu in Seattle - Alaskan king crab legs - who says Patterson's not involved in all this.

Now Grusenwhatshisname is talking about the next special session, next week or next month. . .ugh. Self-appointed martyr, the worst kind. Get a life.

That looks to be the play. However, Wednesday is as likely as Tuesday for floor action in the House because it'll be tough to get SJR 11 (homestead exemption increase) onto the floor before then.

A lot of these Reps. put some serious dough down for this trip. The thing, though, is that Democrats need to stay here. We get people saying, "well, they left to Ardmore, then they go to France/Spain/Bermuda, and now they're in Seattle....we could get something done if the Democrats stopped taking vacations."

So everyone needs to stay put. Let the House knock it down, wait for the courts, and come back in a couple months when everyone isn't as incredibly tired/bored with this as they are now. This school year has already started, there's no reason we need to do this except to save Perry and Dewhurst's butt.
