OK, so PD has made sure to point out the dull, whining noise that hums deep inside your head as you watch the HB 3 debates. To lift the spirits of the staffers still at the capitol, I'd like to point to one of the funnier moments.
Click the 'read more' for a Major Burn!
Chuck Hopson proposes an amendment to increase the homestead exemption while lowering prop tax caps to $1.30. This helps out 144 of the 150 districts in the House. Warren Chisum, speaking against the amendment, is quick to point out how absurd he thinks the amendment is. He damn near yells how he doesn't even bother to claim a homestead exemption on his home because he doesn't mind paying taxes. Minutes later, after a quick internet search, Rep. Dunnam steps up to the back mike. This is what transpires:
Dunnam: Mr. Chisum, your home is in Pampa correct? On Beach street? Are there any other Warren Chisum's on Beach street?
Chisum: No Mr. Dunnam, I don't think there are.
Dunnam: Well Mr. Chisum I would just like to point out that you do indeed claim a homestead exemption, you're wrong.
Burn. Gotta love it when something like that happens. I think there was a collective "HA!" echoing throughout the halls of the Capitol at that moment.
This is great--thanks for posting it...May be the best thing I've heard all week.
