The Senate Is Going to 'At Ease' Us To Death

Not enough votes? Dewhurst lost control of the Senate? SBC flinging themselves around the Capitol today? Yep, such a loud sucking sound coming from over there I can hear it way up here in my ivory tower.

Yesterday morning I gave a speech at the Rotary Club that meets in the bowels of the Capitol (Thanks to Jason Stanford for the invite). I met Representative Bob Hunter and found him to be charming and very statesman-like. By statesman-like, I mean he talked earnestly about how partisanship can get in the way of good policy. I also directed him to Rep. Pena's blog and looks like Rep. Hunter has logged on for the first time. That's awesome.

Hunter's a nice guy, but I've never heard him described as a statesman. Wow, did he promise to honor you w/a resolution for saying that? Also, did he get permission from the mud salesman before reading Pena's blog?

Is Abilene MoFo really Chris Bell? Well, he was born in Abilene and ... yeah, I'm a little bored. Rawhide, what's up?

Great story on Bob Hunter who use to lobby for Tuition Equalization Grants while at Abeline Christian. The new president of Independent Colleges came to Austin. Bob Hunter introduced him to a house member saying this is our friend Rep so and so...the next member was our good friend so and so...the next was our great friend so and so....Finally the new pres figured out.. our friend was a member who never voted for TEGs, our good friend was still undecided, and our great friend was a yes vote. Hunter was too nice to say anything bad about anyone.

God, I haven't spoken to a Rotary Club since I was in elementary school. Which, like Robert Earl Keen, was the last time I had Schlitz beer. Seriously, I'm glad you had a chance to speak to these people and give a hopefully fresh point of view. I would be a little worried being in the 'bowels' of something, however, less I were to be expelled.

Hey Realist, How you doin'? *inappropriate wink* Also, nobody better talk smack about the little Happy Happy Goat, he makes me smile.

OK, that was scary.

Don't Mess w/ Pink at July 28, 2005 10:07 PM

I'm flattered, I think. What the Hell, it's a blog. I don't even know if any of you even really exist, do I?

Realist at July 28, 2005 11:07 PM

Oh we exist.

PinkDome at July 28, 2005 11:40 PM

Happy Goat?? What's the score?

Uncle Bob at July 28, 2005 11:43 PM

Uncle Bob, we thought you were still in Huntsville. (Uh, oh. Blogs melding into one another...)

And PD, I love the big brother interjection. Your are always watching, aren't you? Well, how about big sister telling you to get to bed. You have to be up early to entertain us all. For which we are eternally grateful, btw.

Sure, I know you're real, just like the legislature is sincere. What I do know is that a blog with the word pink in it is worth visiting.

Realist at July 29, 2005 7:41 AM

Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.
