The Senate is taking up HB3 tonight and there about 40 amendments. QR has a scoop on the new proposal that's being circulated tonight that gives it some hope on the Senate floor.
*UPDATE* A skirmish developed over Amendment 1 to HB3 between Sen. Whitmire and Sen. Brimer. The amendment was pulled down after a long and heated debate which included finger pointing, pinched faces and raised voices over a sticking point in raising the licensing fees for 16 professional groups (chiropractors, engineers, interior designers, etc). Senator Whitmire could not believe that Sen. Janek and Brimer were introducing this amendment without letting the groups affected have some committee face time.
The amendment was pulled down until 10:30.
We'll just say you poor staffers. We're watching and it is excruciating. You're sitting in the office ready to gouge your eyes out on a Sunday night and we're sitting here in our underwear sipping a cold beer. (EW..nice visual, huh?) Let's change that to Brooks Brothers pajamas and chilled champagne.
*11 P.M. Update* Chatting with my favorite sexy staffer at 11 p.m. and it's nothing but hot HB3 talk. (sad) The amendment 1 just passed 15-14...Dewhurst broke the tie. As "sexy staffer" put it.."damn! if that amendment had gone down, the whole bill would have sunk."
**11:50 P.M. Update** Ok, I just have to say it. What in the hell is Shapiro wearing? White denim with some chain around her waist? Is white denim ok for the Senate Chamber? Was it casual tax bill day or something and only Flo got the memo?
A number of us are watching the Senate Floor at "an undisclosed location" and determined Flo is wearing a karate outfit.

Last night was the worst display yet for the Texas Senate, which is a mighty high hurdle to clear.
It was a traveshamockery.
Anybody else notice how now half of the Senate votes standing behind Patsy Spaws desk, checking on the vote count. True courage there. When Betty King kept the tallys nobody was up there and then Hobby was told the vote count and members stuck with their decisions.
I totally noticed that. WTF?
