The House has recessed until Tuesday at noon (I'm so jealous). The Senate is still at work, discussing HB2. Sen. Shapiro actually looks sorta stylish today in her clean-cut light-colored suit. Who ever thought we would condone an outfit she wore? The pages sitting behind her look like they are having too much fun. If I could focus on what she was saying, I'd post on it. I'm still a little blurry this morning.
11:04 - Did I hear her defending our low teacher pay? She just said that Texas really isn't that bad at paying our teachers, and that if cost of living is factored in, Texas is 16th. I find this hard to believe. Is there some study I'm missing?
11:13 - A Management team from TEA can come in to "help" low-performing schools. She's plugging the incentive program, which we know Rep. Grusendorf likes.
11:18 - Sen. Barrientos points out that what is mentioned as a "salary increase" is really what was promised to teachers anyway for their health insurance. He just said, "May the force be with you". I ain't lying!
11:27 - I've been told that that is Shapiro's staff goofing off behind her. I'm watching you guys. I've also been told that Michael DeLeon is looking spiffy today.
11:30 - I've been pointed to this item in Quorum Report: SENATE ED PASSES OUT ITS VERSION OF ED REFORM:
Shapiro expects to accept only one amendment, to align with HB 3.
11:44 - Shapleigh is discussing an amendment that will not pass.
Okay, that's all I can handle for now. I won't be ecstatic about anything that occurs here.
Lipth are cute! Not that I think Thahapiro is cute. No.
Lispths ARE cute. "The Do" looks like he's hungover, too. Can't quite get the parliamentary procedure right today, can we?
Front page headline in the Houston Chronicle: "Mad Cow Traced to Waco." No way. Just saw her on the Senate Floor.
I swear Shapiro, when referring to funding for school books, just did a pretty good impression of Sylvester the Cat. She said "texthsbookths." Thuffering Thuccotash!
