The Right Reverend Rick signed the parental consent bill paragraph at a church event and re-affirmed his faith committment to Christian values ability to pander to Christocrats with his support of the civil right bashing, discriminatory constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriages (which is already illegal in Texas) this weekend.
Reverend Perry pandered whipped the crowd into a fervor saying that, "The issue is there is intolerance against Christians in America who simply want their voices to be heard,".
Thomas Jefferson wrote in his famous letter,
I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state.Giving us our main idea of the Separation of Church & State.
We ask Reverend Perry...what about the Jews? What about the "Big Tent" the Republican Party always talks about. We guess it's only big enough to put the Christocrats.
We'll meet the rest of you at the border as we become refugees, forsaken by our state government in favor of a Theocracy that excludes us.
Are you paying attention? Cause if you are not, you better start.
and all this time I thought Perry was a homo. Those poor Chistians being forced to go to gay wedings and parades...when will this stop.
I think we should all be allowed to live our life as I do....WWCD (WHAT WOULD CHER DO)
I was up around ten sat morning, enjoying a makers mark with coffee chaser, when low and behold I see the rev perry on fox news channel with ted fucking nugent!!!! I shit you not, you guys should get a shot of that to add words too.
The only problem with using Jefferson's interpretation of the religion clause in the constitution is that:
A) it's not actually in the Constitution and
B) his proposal for a "wall of separation" didn't have the support of enough delegates at the constitutional convetion. Thus, like many useful sections of proposed law, it had to be left behind.
I knew Speaker Craddick must have been a good reason for refusing to adjourn the House for High Holy Days during the 04 special. Now I can see he was just fighting intolerence against Christians. You stand tall there, Mr. Craddick!
(BTW, the quote was from not Perry but one Tony Perkins, reportedly president of something called a Family Research Council. I guess Mr. Perkins gave up his motel job.)
um, what planet is perry on? christians being persecuted in texas? how's this for persecution: don't pray in my school and i won't think in your church.
Hate not to whip up on Perry, but as a former Fort Worth resident, I really got peeved at Channel 42, 6:00 PM broadcast, whose reporter said Perry signed the bill just outside of Dallas. Missed the first part of the 10:00 PM broadcast so don't know if they corrected story but did enjoy the anchor asking the Capitol reporter if this bill had alot of support. Her answer yes it passed the Senate by a vote of something like 29 to 5. Hard to do with just 31 unless you include Bob Perry, Beecheral et al.
Edmonton dominated the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night and the 4-0 margin in Game 6 makes it hard to imagine the Oilers not hoisting hockey's Holy Grail above their heads in less than 48 hours. And it would not come as any shock to see defenseman Chris Pronger, who had another 31-minute night, take the honors for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP.

I almost admire the rhetorical nimbleness of nuts like Tony Perkins and (now, apparently) Rick Perry who claim, straight-faced, that their inability to impose a very narrow version of fundamentalist Christianity on our public life is actually "persecution." I guess they got it from the Taliban, who whined when the world condemned them for destroying those priceless monuments in the name of their "rigtheousness."
